The drop off right on the other side is about 30 feet. The PO put that fence in. It's fairly popular here because of the views of the hillsides and the sunsets. It can go about 6 months before really needing attention.

Also that metal is alot thinner than our leaf Springs. I have done several shackles and mounts on my own stuff and the time we had the shop. Explorers are about the worst. Don't ask me why. Darn vehicle killer.

I get that the spring mount is thinner, but it seems to have rusted at a different rate. If the salt eats through, lets say 3/16" at the spring mount, wouldn't it also eat through the same 3/16" of spring and frame? From the photos, this doesn't seem to be the case. It's as if the frame and springs are mostly unaffected while the mount is totaled.

Given enough time and exposure, anything is possible.

I'm in the process of replacing these on my 83. It still had the factory mounts and shackles.

That's the mod for a softer ride, right?

I get the time and exposure thing. I'm plenty familiar with time, just trying to figure out what the exposure thing does. I've got a 64 pick up that I bought when I was 15. It still has the factory springs and mounts. The only rust is some slight body rust on one panel from a trip to the coast a few decades ago. My 02 with 547,000 miles doesn't have any frame or body rust.

The springs and frame are made of much MUCH stronger material. Not to mention the frame is coated with something a little better than paint

The reason your 64 lasted so long without rusting is because, as you said, you don't get salt on the roads until recently

That's high quality wiring compared to what I had to fix on my trailer. Apparently someone wanted needed to splice 2 7-wire harnesses together so they just stripped each wire, twisted them together by hand, and wrapped them in electrical tape! A couple of wires apparently needed some short 2 inch jumpers twisted and taped on each end.

A little solder and heat shrink seems to have fixed my issue with the brakes locking up randomly.

It says tag axle. No power.imo stupid waste of time and money. The frame will become the weak point before the suspension needs a tag I have a feeling.
I love the grey seat in the dreadful red interior for 25k lol
