here is what he has done so far:
new cps -ford
new ipr
new ipc
new valve covers/ & pigtails
new fuel pump
hpop full
new glow plugs / & relay
two new 1000 cca batteries
new injector O-rings

cranks really fast--no smoke -no start
its the short bus there is no tachometer

it was running fine, but started acting up as he was driving up front from the back yard. when he got to his tool shed it died. and has sat there dead since.
of course because i plugged it in the autoenginuity decided to erase the activation code, and i did not have it to re enter into the laptop. i tried the hand held scanner, but got nowhere.
there is no smoke at all out of the tailpipe.
it almost sounds like no fuel, but it has fuel pressure at the schrader valve. not sur ehow much, but when you depress the schrader fuel shoots out.
i am working on getting the activation code for AE.

anyone have any ideas what to look for?
Does he have a "Wait to Start" light in the bus, and if so, does it light up when he turns the ignition on? If not, then there is no power to the PCM.

No smoke means no fuel, so I would check all fuses, maybe swap around some relays under the hood, test for power at the PCM, then if I got nowhere, I'd put a mechanical 3500 PSI gauge on the HPO rail and see if it's making pressure. That's a start anyway.

all fuses in the under hood box test good, not sure if there is an under dash fuse box. and there is no marking as to what fuse is what. i am looking for a shortbus fuse diagram.
do you know if the van and pickup computers are the same?
i was thinking a bad computer also.

If I were working on that the first thing I would want to see is hpo. Very first

If he has changed the ICP and IPR he probably has a a bunch of air in the HPO system anyway, so it may take a while to get that all purged out. I think he's gonna need a HPO gauge.

He could always test the IPR for a signal using a DVOM if he's comfortable doing so.

Short bus should be the same wiring as an Econoline Van, no?

HPO, as in oil? i do know the hpop id full, first thing we checked yesterday.
i would imagine if it was airbound it would be purged by now, it has probably been cranked enough to kill the batteries a few times over..

Yeah, but maybe the HPOP is getting weak or something is causing the high pressure oil to not be as high as it should. I haven't hooked up a high pressure oil gauge, but I think it's as easy as taking off an oil galley plug and putting a gauge in there (right?)

From what was done, I'm thinking it's either a bad PCM or not high enough oil pressure at the injectors.

So some how my link to the crank, no start flow chart got deleted...

Does this thing have a CEL? Maybe something is wrong with the injector wiring causing the IDM (both of them) to shut down. Its also possible that there could be a wiring problem with the CPS or IPR.

yes it has a CEL, but there were no pending or active trouble codes as of yesterday afternoon. that is what has me thinking a blown power supply to the PCM, or a bad PCM.

Yeah, but AE wouldn't be able to connect if the pcm power supply was bad, right?

Thanks, Nate, reps sent!

It might be worth while to check the fuse sockets in the fuse panels. My Son has an early 99 Superduty 450 that died when slowing down to turn off the highway, into a pasture. It would spin over fast but would not start. All fuses tested good, but when my computer was plugged into the data port it would not communicate with the PCM, or even power up. After digging into the fuse panels, it was discovered that the socket was spread apart, and was not contacting the blade of the fuse. A pinch of the socket with a needle nose plyers, contact was made, and all is good. A simple fix after 2 days of head scratching, wondering wtf was going on.
