fordguy, actually you can also tell a highboy from the front end. The highboys all had a cross member under the front bumper that the leaf springs mounted too. The lowboy 250's didn't have that cross member. Plus there are other ways to tell a highboy from just looking at one, but these pics don't show those parts.
I knew there was something with the front cross member but didn't want to spread bad info, thanks for the info! Also yes there are plenty more ways, I was just giving examples of what you could go off of from the pics he sent or by driving past one quickly.

Edit* also since it's not a Highboy I would agree with the fact that it at least didn't come from the factory with a 390 so it's either swapped or he's not sure in what engine is under the hood

77 was a funky year for ford as they changed the frame/ suspension and steering on these trucks. i just went and looked at one the other day, it came with the 351M/400, divorced transfer case, that horrible power steering and it sat just as low as the 77.5-79 lowboys do. it still had the incab gas tank as well as the tell tale front cross member. but it was by no means a high boy.

Saw 2 back to back last week... And one more 2 days ago that I didn't manage to get a pic of. Third one was blue and white two tone with a plow on it that I saw in a tiny No Cal town.

That's a pretty place. Some very scenic views. I consider *this* to be the real northern cali, not the durn bay area. My mom lives up north, near Chico.

I enjoyed reading about your truck via the link to your blog, btw. Nice write up and it's amazing you only paid 800 bucks.

I am around the Redding/Anderson/Igo area, with occasional trips to Shasta, Lassen, Shingletown, and Viola. Ill keep my eyes peeled for a '79 with a big 5'er behind it!

Wow that is pretty close! I'll be moving there at the end of the month, but also trying to sell the 5er. New job includes housing and that trailer is gonna be a PITA over the mountains. Watch for a caravan of my truck (with or without camper, lol) a GMC conversion van, and one of the two vehicles towing a white v-nose cargo trailer (which vehicle towing this trailer is dependant on if we have 5er or not, lol )

Know any good shops in the area? The van had been in storage for 2 years and is hurtin pretty bad...

Thanks!
Paul Stower in Redding is pretty good, but it has been a long time since I used a shop.
