Just hit 305k miles yesterday with my 97 4.6! Got a bad exhaust leak thats trippin my CEL thats gonna get fixed soon.
My dad's 03 4.6 is at 299k miles last time i checked too! Long lasting motors for sure.
Oh, the 97 is an f150 xlt scab 4x4 auto, and the 03 is an f150 fx4 scab 4x4 auto. 97 was owned by electrician, 03 was owned by loggers.

My '98 5.4L just turned 200K, it has the tow package with the oil & trans coolers and bigger rad. The 4r100 trans has had nothing but 2 fluid/filter services done. No motor work other than routine maint, 2 alts and a starter. Until the right side exhaust manifold rotted out, changing it next week. I run castrol High milege 5w20, burns about a quart a month.

got my dads 03 expedition that he got around 30k, gave it to me with 220,000. he's never needed any major work done to it. just plugs around 150k, oil every few thousand, and a rear glass hatch (he backed out of the garage with it open and caught the door). I managed to slide backwards down hill in the winter while pulling our trailer, jack knifing, and denting the LR quarter. Then I had a guy purposely lock up his brakes in front of me smashing the front, racking up a $3000.00 body bill. ALL BEFORE 222,000!!! GOOD JOB ME. HOPEFULLY ILL HAVE BETTER LUCK IN THE FUTURE.

Have 2 with the 5.4.
First is the wifes 2001 expedition. At about 160,000 the engine went. Now I have a rebuild in it, about 20,000 miles so far.
My pickup is a 99 with the 5.4. I got it with around 150,000 miles. A 110,000 miles the previous owner spun a bearing. It had about 30,000 on the rebuild when I got the truck. At 170,000 that engine blew up. About 40,000 on the engine.
The expedition gave us about 100,000 miles trouble free. Had to put an alternator on it, and had some trouble with the EGR pressure sensor. Other than that not a problem, until it blew. Over half of those miles I put on it was pulling a 30 foot camper, about 9500 pounds.
The pickup spun a bearing last summer while pulling the camper into a 40mph headwind. The timing chain guide broke causing the timing chain to rub on the cover. That filled the oil pan with metal filings. As far as I can tell it clogged the oil screen enough that 2 bearings chewed up.
I have to say I have had bad luck with the 5.4 engines, but they have served us well. Both have pulled our camper all over the U.S. We don't abuse our vehicles, but we do work them hard!

I have a 1998 expedition Eddie Bauer and it has 265,000 miles on it and just now replacing parts. Everything I have replaced has been original parts.
