93-95 Lightning springs & shocks on regular F-150?

Has anyone done this to get better handling on their truck? I am thinking on going with Edelbrock shocks for a Lightning and getting stock replacement springs.

Any insight is appreciated,
Thanks!

Make sure you get front and rear sway bars as well. I had a 1995 F150 and it Handled like a normal truck(no sway bars). With my 94 it handles like a dream. It has front and rear sway bars, good shocks and wide tires. A pretty good investment if you ask me.

I have a front sway bar on there (at least I think I do) but no rear one b/c my truck didn't come with a towing package.

Is there a kit out there for a rear one?

I have 275/60/15's on there so I am sorta off to a start...

Do you have Lightning springs or shock on your 1994?

Thanks!

Wow, I have the same size tires, I also have stock springs, and some better shocks. I am certain I have seen rear sway bar kits at places like summit racing, and J.C Whitney. Also check out the online store here. Is yours a standard cab or extended? I am planning on getting new springs pretty soon as long as nothing else goes wrong.

I have seen them too but I don't know if they have hangers and stuff with them. As they may be for fact sway bar trucks.

Mine is extended cab. I was also wondering if those Lightning Springs will drop the front 1" and the back 2"...?

What type of shocks do you have? Mine a original with 103K on them!

My shocks are KYB. They are not bad. I would like to find out more about the Edelbrock IAS shocks though. Maybe with the springs like you. You may want to ask this question in the Lightning forum as well. They may be able to tell the difference. Or call NAPA. They are good with giving out info.

I have never seen Edelbrock make any crap so I think their IAS look pretty good. I'd assume since the Lightning is 1" lower in front/2" in rear that the Edelbrock specific shocks are like that.

I was thinking on doing a side-by-side at an autoparts store for the springs.

Do you know anything about lowering a vehicle? Do just the springs do that?

Thanks,
Eric

Unfortunately I do not know much about lowering. I have usually gone the other way. But I know someone here has done it. I am only looking to either level out the truck, or just make it handle better. If you need any of the brakets or such for the sway bar, take a trip to your local bone yard. Then you could even make sure it goes in your correctly.

Going up is fun too! The back of mine isn't up really high but the wheel well is huge for a 28" tire.

Salvage yards are always a great outing for parts and taking out aggression. But that is bad...

If I remember right, the Ford Motorsport catalog from about 5-6 years ago offered Lightning springs (front/rear) for sale. They would lower your regular F-series to the same height as a Lightning. It was a direct bolt in as well.

Maybe I'll give them a call. I think it'd be cheaper to get some aftermarket direct replacements from an auto parts store
