Then why do you need the vacuum diagram? You need vacuum into the cab for the HVAC controls, vacuum to the tranny if it is an auto, vacuum for the power brake booster, vacuum for the cruise control if you have one, and ported vacuum to the distributor.
The first 4 should come from a vacuum tree at the back of the intake manifold, and the ported vacuum is probably on the passenger's side of the primary metering plate on the carb, up high.
Open vacuum ports could do that. Check to make sure everything is plugged that isn't used. But w/o emissions testing you can strip it back to basics, like I said above, and know you don't have problems. Check every hose to make sure it isn't split or off. Many of the original hoses are so brittle they can easily split or just flat break. And, make sure the power brake booster isn't leaking. Ditto the cruise control. Same for the distributor.
I know ive got the distributor is hooked up right new hose on that. no cruise control. the brake power booster is working fine and no leaks as far as i can tell. Im gonna strip them all off tommorow and just hook the ones you said above up and plug up the ones that are not needed.
Well, OK. But, if you have pinging under part-throttle you may have to hook the EGR back up to fix that. And, I didn't mention the PCV line, but it could be considered vacuum and you need it.
the egr i had doesn't fit on my new intake the one i had was made for mt stock 2 barrel and it wasn't hooked up before. dumb question whats the pcv line?
Stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Filtered air is pulled into the engine via the driver's side valve cover, crosses to the passenger's side via the crankcase, and gets sucked into the air/fuel mix via the "tree thing" (PCV valve) on the valve cover.
The PCV valve limits the amount of air that can be sucked through, so you don't want to run without it hooked up.
OK I've got another problem Im hoping someone can help me with. Whenever i put my truck in reverse it whines and will not move when i give it gas works in drive but reverse it whines. Any ideas.
I just ran to my parents house where my truck is parked at. the transmission pan has 14 bols that i counted. there is no transmission id on the door panel.
