Protect your mirrors

Had my truck parked on the side of the road while I was cutting firewood and along comes a senior citizens bus (one of those small ones). All of a sudden I hear "BANG". The driver (elder woman) hit my mirror with the one on the bus.

I went to the dealer on the way home and got an estimate. Mirror: $880 Installation: $99.00

Just wanted everyone to know these things are far from being cheap.

Yup, that's a lesson a few of us have learned. I learned mine when I hit a turkey!

If you have the time I suggest ordering it from Tousley Ford. They have the cheapest prices around, I think they quoted me around $650 or so. I drove all the way over there yesterday to buy some specialized bolts for my old Contour. Local dealer wanted $28 for the bolt and nut, and I was able to get them from Tousley for around $7!

Only works if you actually fold them in.
Outside of backing into my garage, I don't too often and I'm sure it will come to bite me one of these days.

I can just imagine the feeling of "I Really Hope That Was Not my Truck." Know the feeling. Back in 99 my wife put my new 99 PS right into a ditch after a week of ownership. I just sank and then sighed. I laugh about it now but not back then.

Exactly. I mentioned this a while ago but I would like to see an option where when you got out of the truck (key out) the mirrors will fold in. It should be an option on the display screen. My wife's Volvo XC has this option and I like it.

They all fold in, just some of them are power and some are not. My '05 didn't power fold, but if I parked it on the street I would try to remember to fold 'em. Just put the window down and yank 'er back. It don't cost nuthin.

You would think with as much money as we paid.....that these trucks could detect senior citizen buses and taxis and fold themselves in automatically.

So why aren't you getting the money from the driver that caused the damage? Or, are you just telling us how expensive it is?

I'm just letting everyone know how much they are. the town that operates the bus is going to pay me as they are self insured.

My mirrors do fold in, but given how much I was off the road I wasn't worried they'd get hit. After she hit them a garbage truck went by twice as did an oil truck. Neither one even came close to hitting my truck.

I'm glad to hear they are taking responsibility. In my case the turkey did not survive leaving nobody left to pay for my mirror!

I hit a street pole with my passengerside mirror, got another one from here: Discount Body Parts

They sell good quality mirrors and it's honestly hard to tell it from the Ford OEM on my driverside.
