Old mechanic fix was to put a spring between male and female parts.

my 2004 F350 did the same thing, i removed the driveshaft and heavly applied Mobil1 grease but my thump didnt go away. I went to the local Ford dealer and baught a tube of blue teflon enriched slip joint grease for six bucks. Cleaned the grease off and packed the slip joint with the blue Ford grease, my truck is now butter smooth and its still going after a year. Id go try the Ford grease, its only six bucks and it works

 

The dealer finally got me in to get the drive shaft replaced and the slip/bump from the slip yoke are gone. Hope this is the final solution, but time will tell.

They replaced the two piece drive shaft and the carrier bearing.

 

Is this issue happening with the 2012 models?

 

When my truck was in for repair , they gave me a loaner '12 Super Crew, short box, 4x4, Ecoboost. That truck had the slip-yoke bump too. Only had 1300 miles in it as I recall. Also had a single drive-shaft where my 2wd has a two piece one.

 

I just took my 2010 in for the same problem and the dealer called me saying i had "transmission failure" thankfully I purchased the extended warranty. They're replacing the clutch plates and a few other components. Hopefully this solves it. A bit extreme to what I thought was going to be an easy fix. I take great care of my truck, so pretty shocked the tranny went out @ 80k.

 

I have the slip-yoke bump on my 2010 FX2 and I was wondering if there are any reported issueson this with the 2013 model F150s

 

I just got the 2013 FX4 f-150 and I have this issue. I am very upset because it doesn't even have 1K miles on it yet. Should I take this back to the dealership asap or what?

 

Yes sir, I would suggest you take it in. It is a known issue for at least a couple years now. Nothing new and your service dept. shouldn't act surprised when you tell them about it. Several TSBs on this very issue.

A simple grease fitting or two on the yoke would seem to be a very simple and logical solution, but it is beyond me why Ford cannot do this. Unless, of course, I am totally missing something.

Mine is starting to do it again and this will be the third time with 32K. The last time a new drive shaft was installed and it has lasted the longest. The first time I had it done was around 7K.

If not I will take it back to the place i bought it from and really complain to get them to perform it for free. Other wise there is a ford dealer a lot closer to me.

 

BMW makes a grease for the driveshaft splines for their motorcycles. The shop owner called it a high impact grease. Greasing the splines on those motorcycles is a yearly maintenance thing. If you neglect that it's only a matter of time til you can kiss your shaft goodbye. CB

 

This is something that is covered under warranty and should cost you nothing other than the time you have to spend at the dealer.
Note: If they say they "cannot duplicate" the problem, request that you have some one take a ride with you and point it out to them. I have had to do this before, because I will not accept an answer of "cannot duplicate."

I had my 09 in for a rear pinion seal earlier this week and had them do the slip bump TSB at the same time. $100 p&l for the seal and $80 p&l for the TSB and she is smooth as silk. He said the splines still had grease on them and couldn't understand how it would be having an issue so we will see how long it lasts. It was the local mechanic that did it because I cannot stand our local Ford Stealer. If it starts again I will try the marine grease and heater hose so we we will see.
