mine is 2k and at 12.9-13.0 all city driving at 40-50 mph. I am hoping as it breaks in and this weather gets warmer that it might tick up a bit..This thing is so detuned I cant believe it cant get 14-15 all the time around town. This 6.2 is much more pep than my old 5.4 so I am not complaining..

Here's a thought. Maybe my truck is actually truly broke in because I've worked it as it was meant to be worked. In this thread Ask The Engineer located in the 6.2L tech folder the lead engineer talks about the boss 6.2L. He says rev it baby, don't be afraid of rpm's.

When I had around 5000 miles on the beast I took it on it's first real outing. We went from Cheyenne to Clark Wyoming via Casper, Shoshone, Thermopolis, Meeteetse, and Cody looking like this...

I had over 10,000 lbs of stuff with me and it was in the high 90's we actually hit 100 degrees at one point. Between Meeteetse and Cody there are some serious pulls and a few times I had her in 2nd gear almost floored turning 5500 rpms to maintain 60 mph. She was working and I could hear the radiator fan kicking in. After that run there was a noticeable difference in the truck.

Could be wrong, maybe I got lucky and got an exceptional one.

I haven't ever worked my truck like that - a few wind ups to get up to speed quickly, but nothing continuous. There certainly is nothing wrong with running this engine at high RPM; maybe you are right, maybe its still tight. We'll see how things are for me in the summer.

10,000 miles on my truck @ 3000 of those miles are towing.

Hear are my numbers for the first year.

The high MPG peaks are empty, mixed driving, and the low MPG numbers are towing my 6000 lb travel trailer with lots of frontal drag.

The middle numbers in the chart are a mix of empty and towing.

2wd drive. 3.73 rear

Thought I would chime in, my 2011 350 reg cab with 265/70/17 duratracs, with hubs locked and 3.73 rear:

Highway unloaded: 12-14
City unloaded: 10-12
Towing 3-5k: 9-11 (trailer is a large boxed in dump trailer)
Towing 5-10k: 8-10, same trailer
Driving with 9 foot V plow (around 1000 lbs), and 1200lbs of sand: 9-10
Plowing, 4x4 engaged, same load as above: 6.5-8

Does this mean you drive around in 4WD all the time?

No, it just means he keeps the hubs locked so he can manually shift to 4x4 at any time without getting out of the cab. I do the same thing, at least all winter. There is a small mpg penalty, maybe 0.5-1mpg. At least he gets about the same mpg as me.

Right. I'm in Maine so I lock them in November and unlock them in April.

Well I believe I'm in competition for lowest mpgs, I average 9.9 right now mostly city driving. All city with mostly stop and go traffic 9 mpg and strictly highway I avg 13.6 mpg. It's a 2011 crew short bed 4x4. I do have factory 20" wheels and 34" tires and the truck was calibrated for the tire size. After hearing what some of you guys get I feel like throwing up!

You still can get them even on the current models. Mostly they are relegated to the lower trims, with Ford assuming people don't want to pay the extra $185 for the convenience of having auto hub problems down the road.

01f350, I'm right down there with you - been averaging 9.7mpg mostly in town driving on the last tank...however its been cold with extra idling and some towing of my snowmobile around.

2014 loaded lariat f350 srw 4x4 short bed crew cab 4.30 gears with 600 miles on the odometer and a feather foot avg 12.6 mpg no towing yet. Mostly flat, highway with a few hills and windy where I drive. Will it get any better?

It will get better after you hit 1000 miles. Once you start to break it in you could see upwards of 15-17 mpg easily.

Really? Did you read the last two posts? I wouldn't say he will easily see 15 to 17 mpgs.

If your lucky you'll get that. I think tire size affects mileage a lot, factory 20s come with 34.4" tires.

So is it a good thing to have the taller tires, or a bad thing? I noticed the stock 17" tires are like 31" tall.
