Please, could we avoid opinions about why gas will hit $5, or speculation where gas prices may go after it hits $5 under:

"Politics aren't allowed in the technical forums. If you'd like to bring up the President and how he and the other politicians affect the price of gas I suggest becoming a premium member and starting a thread in Club FTE."

Besides, it's already a moot point for some Americans according to ABC News. Tonite they said regular is $4.95 in LA. The big lighted Shell gas station sign shown in their feature was at $4.939, $4.999, & $5.099 - for all practical purposes $5!

I know that it's getting significantly higher around here already. I drive nearly 90 miles round trip to work every day, and fuel prices are part of the reason I sold my F350 last May. Perhaps my 24 MPG Mustang will start to cost me too much...

I expect prices will fall if prices stay high for more than just a couple of weeks. Just like back in '08 before the prices fell people were unloading larger vehicles for thousands less than they would have before prices went sky high. It'll take a few months of crappy prices before I think we'll see much of that though.
