New Leafs, which ones??

I'm looking to replace my droopy front leaf springs. I've found a couple which are rated at 2030 lbs which would be a U coded spring and the other is the X spring at 2630 lbs.

Questions- would the X be signifcantly stiffer that the U.
With a 7.3 would the U be enough or is this motor that much heavier than gassers.

My goal is to get rid of the droop but keep the ride a soft as possible without under springing the truck.

Opinions appreciated.

EDIT: P.S. My door pillar sticker is gone so I don't know what my truck had originally. Going to try to wire brush them off tomorrow to see if I can find a stamped code.

I put X code springs on my truck and it raised it 1 1/2". I don't feel a difference from the V codes I had on it.

Get the X code springs.

The X codes are rated 3,000. Info below is per pair. My truck came with W codes and is nearly level. 1" lower in front with 2" rear blocks. E99s came with 4" rear blocks but I swapped them out for the 2".

There is a two-character spring code on the vehicle certification sticker on the lower doorpost behind the driver's door. The first character is the front spring code, and the second character is the rear spring code. A common spring code for a CrewCab 4x4 would be VB. The V means 5,200 pounds front springs, and the B usually means the rear springs on an F-350 SRW. However, some F-250s also have code B rear springs.

Any pickup can have any available front spring code - depending on options, and it doesn't matter whether F-250, F-350 SRW or F-350 DRW. Here are the spring codes for the front leaf springs on '99 thru '04 PSD 4x4 pickups:

T = 4,400 pounds @ground
U = 4,800
V = 5,200
W = 5,600 (rare on a pickup)
X = 6,000 (only with snow-plow pkg on a pickup)

Rear spring codes:
A = F-250 & Excursion (6,084 pounds @ground)
B = F-350 SRW (6,830 pounds @ground)
C = F-350 DRW (8,250 pounds @ground)

If you already have code B rear springs, then you already have the same rear springs that are on F-350 SRWs.

If you have Code U or V front springs, then you might like the code X front springs. In addition to giving you a little more weight capacity on the front end, they will give you a one to two inch lift of the front end.

If you wanted to really beef up the springs on your F-250, then put the code X front springs and the code C rear springs on it (they should bolt on). But be warmed it will then ride "like a truck".

BTW, NEVER change leaf springs without replacing all the U bolts with brand new U bolts.

Thanks again for the responses.

Why would spring U bolts be different from any other hardware- reusable if in good condition- Are they torque to yield???

I know you are talking mostly about front springs but just for a bit of info on the c code rear dually springs. I just recently put them on my 2000 CC SB SRW. They gave me a good inch in height over the A code rears that were stock (my A's were original and had 1 broken leaf) and they ride like a dream. I am verry happy with them. They are not stiff riding like you may think.

Not only did I reuse my front U-bolts when I did the V code/B code mod on my Excursion, but I also got a pair of "take-offs" from a 4x4 shop and used those U-bolts for my rear.

Ford (and every tech book or online source I've ever seen) always recommends you use new U bolts, so I made sure that last sentence was also included.

I didn't follow that advice though and so far, 6 years later, I'm doing ok.

Go with the X codes. Especially with the heavy Powerstroke. I don't think you will regret it.

X code spring would have to come from dealer 2000 FORD F-350 SUPER DUTY Parts - Tousley Ford Parts Depot

You could go aftermarket too though 2000-04 F250-350 1.5" Front Leaf Springs

Mine are on the way.

http://www.generalspringkc.com/index...1029&parent=82

Will post when I get them and do the install. I priced new from my local dealer and they wanted over $200 for each. Tousley sure beats my local by a ton.

You have to have the part number for the spring you want.
