Maybe buying a 1996 F250 7.3L 5 speed

looking into buying a 1996 F250 7.3L turbo diesel, 5 speed 4x4, extended cab, short bed. Not sure how many miles yet, going to look at it this weekend. Supposedly minimal body and frame rust. I also dont know if its TTB or solid front axle or what the gear ratio is.

Depending on the milage obviously how much should I expect to pay?

I know the 7.3L is a bullet proof engine and Ive wanted one for a couple yrs now but are there any other problems/stuff to be careful for, stuff I should check out, etc...

Ive never owned or worked on a diesel so I dont know very much about diesel except they're a PITA to start up cold because of the fuel and obvioulsy their torque and power is not even comparable to gas engines.

Pics will follow after I see it this weekend

If it's stock it'll be the D50 TTB.

If it is in good running order it should fire off just as easy as a gasser.

Do yourself a favour and check out the Diesel engine forum

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum170/

Any diesel specific questions should be asked there, many knowledgeable guys.

For the truck you describe in average condition I would guess between $2500-$4000 depending on options, trim, and mielage.

You'd want to check the 94-97 psd forum. They are a solid, dependable engine. Around here it would go for 6-8k, more if its low miles in good shape.
