Navigation and radio shut off

I have an 08 F350 6.8 V10 with the 6-disc in dash touch screen radio/nav and it powers off and then comes back on by itself. The music turns off and the screen goes black. When it comes back on it displays the Ford logo as if you were turning it on, and then resumes with the nav screen and audio. I have the FX4, Camper springs, and 20's so I do have a firm ride but it doesn't seem to be related to a bump or anything because it can happen while sitting still.

At first it was once every couple weeks, but it seems progressive and now it's a daily occurrence, sometimes it will happen 4 and 5 times in a row. It's getting really annoying.

I called Ford and they said they have a Navigation upgrade for $114 since I'm out of warranty, but it doesn't mention any powering off issues.

If it were the LCD going bad you wouldn't think it would re-power, just go blank.

Loose connection?

Anyone had this problem??

Thanks in advance, Chris

If it's out of warranty. I would first pull the dash cover off and remove the radio, And check all the connections just to see if they are loose or a bad wire. That may be a free fix, maybe not. But at least you tried something. I don't know if unplugging the radio from the power will put these radios in anti theft mode. check with your local dealer first and if it will, you need to get the reset code from them for your truck.. remember to check first or you may be out of a radio till you go there..

Kind of sounds like maybe a relay or something. Might want to check your owners manual for the fuse box and relay layout.

If it's not that...then it could be the head unit itself.

Good luck...and do please report any findings...

Thanks guys,
I called Ford Factory Navigation and they suggested pulling the fuse for 5 mins to see if it resets(after I call my local dealer to make sure that's the right way to reset it without a code or whatever else). I'm going to try that and then the connections. I'll post back when I figure it out.

Chris
