The 300 died because of EPA compliance.
You have to wonder why no one (except the Slant 6) made any kind of attempt to put a real intake manifold on the 6's. They are all just a log with a carb that is 3" from the center cylinders, and 8" from the end cylinders. My dad had a Comet with the 200"-6, at about 80k miles it got to where it wouldn't idle unless we pulled the PCV valve out. Tore it down, the exhaust valves in #1 and #6 were literally burned in half from running lean, #2 and #5 were about 1/4 gone, and #3 and #4 were completely fine. Port fuel injection would have made that a really nice motor.
