My first truck 1950 f1

Hello,

Here are pictures of my first truck. I recently acquired this 1950 f1 for $2,000 which didn't seem too bad. I have some questions about this truck that I hope you guys can answer for me.

1. Are the rear view mirrors original?
2. Can anyone tell me anything about the heater?
3. Is the dome light original?
4. Is the rear bumper original? Doubt it is how hard are they to find?
5. How hard is it to find the original trim pieces that are missing on the hood?
6. Drivers side door glass is cracked does anyone reproduce this?
7. How do I tell what the original color was?
8. 32323777 is stamped into the firewall what is that number?

Please post any other comments on the truck. Any information about the model and options of the truck are greatly appreciated.

Hey welcome to FTE! there are factory mirrors like that, but the one's I have seen have round mirror heads not rectangular. Can't tell , but if that radio is original, it's worth keeping. don't just throw it away, many people out here look for those.
Glass is no problem, in fact there should be any parts problems, because you are now part of the best forum I have ever been on! Lots of good people here and parts are available either new or used, depending on what you need. trim shouldn't be bad to find.

rear bumper is not correct. They can be purchased. The mirrors are correct as stated above. The dome light it incorrect someone must have added it. The heater is an aftermarket Arvin.(not factory) New beds can be purchased along with patch panels for cab corners floor boards and fenders. New running boards are being reproduced also. Go to denniscarpenter.com or macsantiqueautoparts.com they are the leading reproduction companies out there. you will find that most of macs stuff was made by carpenter.

Dome lights started on the trucks in '51-52 (so I have read)
Original color? look in places up under the dash or inside firewall
The number on the firewall is, at least, part of the vin and assy. location.
but it doesn't look right to me, should be some letters also.
The heater is to keep you from freezing in the winter !!! Joke

edit: Jordan beat me to it!

Jordan, those rectangular mirror heads are original? I never seen them with those type arms except round headed. Just curious

Hey Zcar,
Nice to have another '50 F1 on here! Welcome Aboard!
Looks like a nice start - There are replacements available for the
complete Bed, running boards (even in steel), fenders in fiberglass,
all chrome pieces, etc. Doors are hard to come by so be nice to your's - same goes for the Hood. There is a member on here that makes the Rear Cab corner patches - they are much better than what's out there at LMC, etc.

Good luck over there! What kind of engine are you going with?

Ben in Austin

(I had the fun of being in NJ last summer when it hit 108 degrees - yikes! - hot even for a Texas guy).

Welcome to FTE... Great project... The radio isn't original, the front bumper looks to have had something added behind and between the bumper and frame rails (look like light tabs).

Yup, you mostly see them on bigger trucks though.

Welcome!

After you are finished crawling around your new treasure - we'll be ready for more questions.

Since we are all about pictures and location - and you passed the pic part already - might want to update your profile to add a state, city, back alley, or pool hall that you call home.

Welcome to FTE.

The 51 dome light is mounted above the rear window. Your light is mounted where the headliner center screw goes.

I'll add my welcome and concur with others on some of the parts. The mirror rods appear to be original. Not sure on the mirror head itself as it could be easily changed from a circular mirror to a rectangular mirror. Radio is not original. Heater is a period correct aftermarket unit. The dome lamp is not original and is an add on from either an aftermarket or from another vehicle. Like Joe stated, the factory dome lamp was mounted to the upper edge lip of the rear glass, in center. Jeff is correct. Dome lamps were an option starting in 51 and standard on trucks equipped with the Extra (Deluxe) package. They can be hard to find. I just sold an original dome lamp assembly to another FTE member.

As for glass and other trim parts you're missing, they're available in repro. However, I have most of the parts you're asking about in used condition. I also have the stock rear bumper. If you're interested, you can email me through FTE by clicking on my user name or directly at modelking2000 at hotmail dot com.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Mirrors - I like the round mirrors and will be switching to them during the resotration.

Radio - For now it will stay. The radio is six volt and period correct so until I find a used original I will keep it around.

Engine - It has a flathead V8 in the truck and I have the original as well.

Heater - Did Ford make a heater that says Ford or should I just keep the one I have and restore it?

Dome Light - I will take out the dome light when I install the new headliner I have.

Paint Color - Looking at the truck I think I will be lucky to find original paint that someone hasn't touched anywhere on the truck.

Firewall stamp - I will take a picture of the numbers stamped into the firewall. Some letters may have been stamped into the wall but it was hard to make out.

Firewall tag - What information can I get from the tag on the firewall?

Things I need to get the truck on the road.

1. Can anyone recommend an affordable disk brake setup for the front?

WIRE DIAGRAM?????? I don't know who "attempted" to "improve" the wiring on the truck before but I would have to rate it as a fail!!

The rear tail lights are not original and look rather sketchy. At one point in time I saw a nice set that was either chrome or nickel plated and had Ford inscribed on them as well as having the blue circle in the middle of the lens. I cannot seem to find them again and would like to purchase a set. If this rings a bell with anyone and they know where to purchase them please send me a link.
