Go with skyjacker 6" and 35's

I have a 1993 F150 with the 4.9l and the five speed manual trans. I put a 6 inch skyjacker II lift on mine with new leaf springs instead of blocks. I have 35" BFG Mud terrains on it and it rides and handles great. The 35s look great with 6 inches of lift and nothing like a "mall crawler" as someone had said earlier on this thread.
I also swapped out the gears to 4.10's both front and rear. I get 16 mpg highway and 12-14 around town depending on how much fun i have driving.
The skyjacker kit quality is great and all of the brackets that came with it are good strong heavy duty pieces.
The only problem i have is that my tires rub against the extended radius arms when i turn full lock. But thats due to me choosing a 10 inch wide rim and 12.5 inch wide tire.

4" Skyjacker w/ 35" Tires

4" Skyjacker Lift (all springs), 35x12.5x16.5 BFG All Terrains, 351W (164K), E4OD, 1997 F250 HD 4x4. I almost went with the 6" lift myself, but backed off at the last minute, and am happy with the way my truck sits with the 4" ........... besides, 35" tires are much cheaper than 37's !!!

Lift blocks will let you have the same ride stiffness as stock for the most part, however you will suffer from whats known as axle wrap if the block is excessive (over 4 inches or so), which is the axle moving back and forth when you can on it or let off quickly. Without lift blocks it might ride really rough depending on whether you add more springs or high arch springs. I disagree that 6 inches is unsafe, You're only going to end up slightly taller than a 1 ton. My 89 f250 has 8 inches of lift in the front and 6 in the back and its as safe now as it was from the factory. They make drop hitches for this exact purpose. If a kit doesnt already come with them, youre going to need shocks that are longer. Personally I recommend anything Rancho as I've had a lot of luck with them in the past. Otherwise a lift kit should come with everything; springs, blocks, u bolts, might come with shocks.
Thanks GNR22 for all the info, knowing what the axle wrap is helps a lot. Do you have a preference on whether it would be best to use blocks or not? It sounds like everyone agrees that Rancho is a good brand of lift I'll have to check into it. Again thanks everyone for the info!

Hey your truck looks great another reminder of why I wanted to go with 6in lift and 35s. I kindof thought that skyjacker was a good brand. Thanks for the info.

Personally I dont mind blocks what-so-ever, and they keep the ride pretty smooth. My truck has 2" blocks front and rear (everyone on this site claims that my front end is going to kick out the front blocks on a straight axle) but Ive took my truck mudding, and I've gotten 5 feet of air with it and the blocks stayed right where they started. If the kit comes with blocks it's not really a big deal if they're no more than 4". But if it just comes with springs, so be it. You're welcome for the info buddy.

I would have to disagree about the lift blocks. Our trucks come stock with small blocks installed and even with new springs and the stock blocks I still get some axle wrap when on the dirt. Especially when in reverse. Paying the extra money for a kit with new leaf springs will be worth it in my opinion. I did and I am very happy with my choice
