2012 BS Thread Extraordinaire! "Let the BS flow"..........

I have heard that logic too, and it makes sense............But I was also told that TCW-3 marine is the only oil thats reliable enough for a motor thats turning 6000 - 6500rpms like a large outboard may do for long periods of time, which brings combustion temps WAY up there even in a water cooled engine. I have run both types of 2 stroke oil in my saws, and it does not seem to make a difference...........I may be wrong.

Im not positive either, so further research is in order If I run regular 2 stroke in my outboard kicker, it will load up about every 20 minutes or so at trolling speed. But the tc3 goes all day. It may be more an issue for outboards then motor bikes.

I was thinking higher ash in 2 stroke (non marine rated), low ash in TCW2 and ashless in TCW3. Haven't had to mix since I switched to a boat with an inboard so I'm rusty and out of touch with this.

Example was, He replaced a 50hp 4 cylinder 2 stroke Mercury with a 50hp 4 stroke Honda..........Same 15ft runabout of course, with the 2 stroke Merc......37mph top speed........With the Honda.........Barely 31 mph (and with a performance prop) Then the much heavier Honda started to destroy his transom, after SS plates and rebuilding the transom and having a brace to take the load of the motor off the transom and on to the trailer, he is hoping to find a real nice used 50hp Merc and send the riceburner packing!

All this talk about boats is making me want a replica of the SS Minnow.
S.S. Minnow
Wonder if my truck could even haul it?

After having the 1 boat for 21 years, I finally gave into the evil spirits and bought a used boat with an i/o stern drive. Handles the ocean and choppy/rough water better, which is more hull design not motor related. It has a cuddy we can sleep in, barely, but does give us that option. At 20' and 4500 lbs a little big to cart around but it is nice to pull up to the pump and fill 'er up without having to figure out the mix and add oil. (my old one was not oil injected).
Found some interesting info on the 2 stroke oil. Just skimming the surface, rayzors may be right in the cautionary note. Choosing A 2-Stroke Oil

Snow turned to rain. So, all we have here is lots and lots of rain. 39 deg outside.
