Priorities, I hate those. I need to get my rear main fixed too. For now I am focusing on everything else. Have you tried putting some Lucas or "rear main seal fix" in yet? Might help.

I was told mine had a rear main seal leak, but so far, I don't see any evidence of it. Now, I am concentrating on fixing the electrical gremlin that turns on my parking lights, and dash lights whenever I push the brake pedal.

More often than not it's not really your rear main, you guys are sure it is, right? Just about every oil leak in your engine will drip down to the bell housing and come out in front of your torque converter shield/inspection cover/ whatever it is.. and look like a rear main leak.

I keep considerably slowing my "rear main leak" by retightening valve covers and my oil pan bolts.

just give it a thought

You know i had thought about this but was told by parents, brother and a few other people that when it comes out from the bell housing it is usually a rear main. I have not tried climbing back to look at the back of the valve covers or the intake. I know they have both been taken off when the PO took the heads off. It very well could be leaking. I would love if that was all it was cause it wouldn't be as difficult. And no Brett i have yet to try any stop leak or rear main fix, if i ever get around to changing the oil i might add some and see how it goes. Procrastination is a dangerous thing kids

The stock valve covers are really hard to seal, especially if they tried using cork gaskets. I never could get mine to seal again after one removal.. didn't over-torque or anything. Put on some Ford Racing valve covers, they sealed better but the studs loosen up and I have to retighten every so often.

I just don't think those Felpro cork gaskets work, so if you have them I'd bet that's where the leak is coming from.

I did notice the cork ones sort of split around the bolts, i replaced the gasket on my mustang cover and it split as we tightened it. How much do you think the racing covers are?

I looked and looked and.. oh, dude, forgot you were talking about your 78'. carbed ones are easy to find and really inexpensive. BroncoGraveyard has some really nice ones.

They might even have those ones that say "Ford Bronco" on the valve covers. I looked and couldn't find them for my EFI 351w.

edit:

they wont be as thick as my cast aluminum but they are leagues better than stock:
http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-...-400-pair.html ... and 1/3 the price of what I payed

only do it if you think you can't seal with your originals. Mine were warped, I could see it, my PO bought the Bronco as his first project (that he gave up on) and ya'll know how that goes.

So found some great black and red steel racing ones that are about $78 after the possible shipping. Not too bad.

Heres my 88. just a cold start. complete with a baffling squeak that turns into a full blown sqeel, unless I turn the wheel and it goes away. new belt, new tensioner, new A/C bypass pulley...anyway
