appropriate gears for the rear end help with towing capacity however since the bronco is such a short wheelbase with a larger tow capacity then a bronco 2 for example it too is bouncy on the road with tongue weight which inturn drops the tow capacity unless you want to end up dead. with that said 6k max

Thanks I don't want to end up dead ,thats for sure.I really don't know enything about the gears and the rear end ratio.Bought the truck used
and don't have an owners manual.I assume that the truck came with
the standard factory specs.

Well, if your Bronco is like mine, then it has 3:55's in it. However, if you want to check, and don't mind crawling under your Bronco, it should have a tag on one of the bolts of the differential.

I had it on the lift the other day, but did not see any tags.So its back to square one.
I don't know why people don't put the tags back on after servicing the differential? In any case, I agree njneer1 you can get a build sheet for your Bronco and find that info out. Of course, whoever serviced it may have changed the ratio. Highly unlikely, but possible. You can get it up off the ground, and mark the driveshaft, and then spin the tire and count how many revolutions it makes for one revolution of the tire. If the driveshaft rotates 3 and a half times, then you have 3:55 gears.

Thanks Jim.I will try that next time I have the truck on the lift. But I also
going to try njneer's idea to call ford for the line sheet. If I have it I might
need it for something else.Who knows it is still an old truck.Happy Holidays.
Bill.
That is what killed the Bronco, Ford decided to build the Expedition instead of sub contracting out the Centurion.
Jim
I don't Know too much but the Bronco has some body issues at up here in the northeast, and everybody at the time was looking for more of everything. Can that be the reason also?
