89 oilpump hexshaft

I was wondering how much play should there be in the oil pump shaft from the oil pump to the dizzy. It seems like it's a bit excessive. I'm talking about the up and down movement. The hex is in good shape. It's not worn on either the dizzy side or the pump side. Maybe I need to move the pinch clip up?

There will be some up and down movement, that's normal.. That clip you speak of is only there to keep the shaft in the oil pump when and if the distributor is pulled out. It does not act as a bearing or anything like that..
