6.7 Glow Plug dropped ( pic added )
#91
I had the same thing happen. It was November20. Driving 70 down the highway, my truck started making a funny noise, I pulled over and it sounded like it was missing on one cylinder. I headed on home (30Mi) and took it to town the next morning, it died before I got to the dealership. After setting untouched for a couple of weeks, the called and said the glow ploug was burned off, and there may be more damage, might need a new motor. On December 19, they called and said a valve was broke, and the piston was ruined, needed a new motor. I have 32k on the truck, I bought it in may of 2010. I was expecting a new motor, but then they called and said there was some rust in the cylinders, and said this could only be caused by me running through water, and flooding the air box WHAT???? First of all, there's no water within 100 miles, I live in west texas and haven't seen rain in a year!!! I know I didn't run through water, and after reading on here , it looks like it is their problem??? Thanks you guys for having this forum, it helped me a lot. Any input on what I need to do?? They have ordered a motor, buy say I will have to pay $20k.??? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.
I've got to agree with Senix on this one. Be as detailed as you can with all of your service documentation. Since they have voided your engine warranty be ready for the battle. Hopefully, they'll step up and do the right thing.

Welcome randito.
Take senix's advise; get FCS involved.
Seems they somewhat worked on it between Nov. 21st and Dec. 19th.
If the engine was torn apart that long, it can't be good as HDslider mentioned but maybe Vloney and Cheezit can provide their experience.
This doesn’t seem procedural for an in warranty truck (within 4,000 miles).
If it was out of warranty and torn apart where the customer didn’t have the money, then I can see it sitting untouched but sounds like this dealer needs a wakeup call.
Unfortunately, if they’ve already denied warranty coverage, there’s no way to cherry-coat the battle you’ll be joining.
If you have the detailed maintenance records, call a meeting.

I would also check with your automobile insurance carrier under the comprehensive provisions to see if this repair would be covered in a worst case scenario. It would cost you your deductible in the event that Ford denies your claim. Another 6.7 member lost a fuel system due to water contamination and his insurance carrier paid the bill after being denied warranty repair by Ford.

Maybe randito will start a new topic with more of his experience.
New? Used? Maintenance?
May of 2010 was when mine was built and purchased so used trucks were probably few and far between around that time.

If a motor gets hydrolocked a little rust is not what i would use to confirm this diagnosis. The first thing i would look at is the air filter for signs that it was water logged (are the 6.7s using the donaldson filter? Not sure how these react) and for water spots in the airbox itself. Next I would pull the lower intercooler tube-a hydrolocked motor the intercooler will be full of water to the point of making a mess. A little water and oil can be considered normal. I have never seen a hydrolock motor crack a valve to cause the engine failure-bent rods are almost always the result.

Maybe this will help answer your question.
I'm not sure who makes them for Ford, though.
Main filter
Ford 6.7 Liter Turbo Diesel Motorcraft FA-1902 MAIN Air Filter(FA1902): F-Series Trucks - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks
Pre filter
[FA-1909] - Motorcraft FA1907 - Ford 6.7 Liter Turbo Diesel PRE Air Filter: F-Series Trucks-UPDATED FOR SNOW PLOWING - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks
And an example of possible snow (water) ingestion although Crazy's truck was fine.

Part # 1907 was discontinued. It's a low restriction filter.
