1987 Glow plug controller
#16
The monster has awakened! Yes, my F250 is now running.
Here is the problem. When you ask for a glow plug controller, at some parts houses, they sell you the round bakelite component which has four terminals on it. That is not the controller; it is only part of the controller. The full controller is the bakelite component and the black module that sets under it. Most of those wires that attach to the the bakelite part actually come from the rest of the controller. I had replaced the bakelite component twice and it didn't correct my problem. Finally, I tried Auto Zone and they sold me the whole controller. I replaced this $80 controller (I understand Ford wants $280 for that controller) and the beast awoke.
I'm relaying this information in the hopes that some others will not go through the efforts I went through trying to isolate the problem. I thought that when I bought that bakelite component, I bought the whole controller and I was searching for a problem that interfaces with the controller thinking that two brand new "controllers" couldn't be defective.
Tom, FordF250 and LazyK, thanks again for your help. FordF250, I think the item you were calling the large metal Z, is actually what I was calling the ribbon shunt. Semantics - not fun when communicating via internet exchanges, LOL.
This site rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
