NEED HELP - 2012 F250 with spongy brakes
First time poster here. I took delivery last week of a new 2012 F250 with a 6.7 Power Stroke Diesel. This is my third F250 with a Power Stroke Diesel. My first one was a 1997 w/7.3 PSD and my last one was 2001 w/7.3 PSD which I traded in for the 2012.
Now for my problem. The brakes seem spongy to me. When I am applying the brakes I get what seems like a longer than normal pedal travel (to me anyway) and soft. The braking isn't as good as my last two F250's. If I pump the brakes, the brake pedal firms up and the braking really improves. I have not contacted my dealer yet.
Anybody else having this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Go to the dealer and drive another new truck for comparison.
It may be something as simple as bleeding the brakes. I know my 2005's brake pedal is stiffer than any other '05 - '07 I driven, and that's probably because I change the brake fluid every year using a Motive Power Bleeder and Ate Super Blue DOT 4 fluid.

Thanks true blue and XB70 for your responses.
I took the truck to the dealer today and at first they said that my truck's brakes were normal. I disagreed and said that the brakes on my truck are not normal. They took my truck into the shop and I left and went back to work. They called me later in the day and said they could not find anything wrong. I told them that I can duplicate the problem. I went back to the dealer after work. We compared my truck against another new F250 and the other truck's brakes were definitely a lot better than my truck's brakes. During this conversation with the Service Writer one of the other Service Writer's over heard our discussion. The other Service Writer then ask if my truck had the adjustable pedal option which I said that it did. He then asked if my pedals were all the way forward, which they were. He then said that he remembers reading a TSB or FSA concerning the same brake symptoms as my truck has. He said that it advises owners not to place adjustable pedals in in the full forward position as it causes symptoms similar to air in the brake lines. We moved my pedal assembly rearward and checked the brakes. WOW, now my truck's brakes work like they a supposed to.

Personally I think that is wrong and should be fixed. Why have the option if it does not work as advertised. Please drive another truck with adjustable pedals and see if it does the same thing. I have owned a few Ford's with adjustable pedals and the brakes felt the same within the full range of motion. Good luck

Thanks true blue.
I did drive another F250 with adjustable pedals yesterday. I agree that is sounds a little hokey and told the Service Writers so. We moved the adjustable pedals on the other new F250 and duplicated my truck's brake problem onto the new truck. I told the Service Writers that I was apprehensive of moving the pedals to "fix" the problem. They said that they will leave the service ticket open and suggested that I drive my truck over the weekend. In the mean time, I did a quick search for TSB's or FSA's related to adjustable pedals. I haven't found anything yet. Monday, I will ask the dealership to produce a TSB or FSA to support there "fix".
Thanks again for your comments

sponge brakes
Just registerred after reading this problem. Hey all. I currently have the same problem with my 250. I bought the truck from a double dealership (same name/owner two dealerships). The first time i took it in for this issue they bled the brakes and claimed they found air in the lines and were shocked. Brakes worked great after leaving the dealership. I went on a 3200 mile trip the next day and before I left to come back home the same problem again! When I got home I took it to the other dealership (which is where I purchased the truck) and explained all of this, after a day 1/2 they called me and insisted that their is no problem with the brakes and to drive one on the lot to compare. Any help here?

Interesting topic! The past 4 years I have been driving a 2001 F250 for work and the brakes on it feel way better than the brakes on my 2012 F250. The '12's definitely have a spongy feel to them, but it stops without a problem. I was thinking Ford went with a new brake system since '01 and this is the new feel. I have not been to a dealer to confirm that that, just my thoughts. I hate it because I drive my '01 95% of the time so when I hop into the '12 the brakes drive me nuts. I am driving the '12 in a couple hours and will adjust the pedals to see if there are any better results. Thanks for the tip!
