Brake sensor light on dash comes on after pedal is depressed then goes out
The brake light sensor comes on when you apply the brakes 2 or 3 some times 4 or 5 times. Brake pedal becomes soft and stopping power reduces. If you pump the brakes the light also comes one then goes back off after the engine runs for a short period, 15 to 20 seconds. It is a F 250 Power Stroke Diesel, Automatic. Dealer mechanic said it could be the abs sensor, the booster or the master cyclinder. What is the most likely part to cause the problem. Thanks in advance for your assistance. I am thinking that replacing the master cyclinder first would be my best bet to repair the problem.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Nov-02 AT 10:04 PM (EST)]We have checked for leaks on the wheel cylinders. I failed to mention before that no brake fluid has been added and the fluid levels check ok. I certainly appreciate your suggestion. we will recheck for leaks.

the first thing i would do is bleed the brakes and check for any air in the system. also, being a diesel, doesn't it have a vacuum pump, or hydro boost, for the power assist? check to make sure your power assist is working. make sure you get a repair manual (my vav. is haynes) for bleeding the brakes. with abs, they sometimes have to be done in a particular way, or may cause an abs error code.
