it, but first let me lay out a few things. I recently bought an 08 F350 4 door 4x4, never owned this year make or model before. So here is my question, I'm wanting to improve my fuel mileage with a DPF Delete kit/tuner. I do tow but not anything crazy on a daily basis, and don’t need to go all out with performance; I just want to save a little money at the pump. Basically what I want to know is what are you guys out there running, what do you like, what do you not like, what problem have you run into or your kits caused and what would you change if you could do it all over again. I know I could read all the manufactures info and I have but I want real world stuff, let me know and thanks for all the help.

is yours Single or Dual rear wheel?

I have an 08 DRW. 4.10 rear.. I get 9mpg towing my 7,000lb show car trailer.
I added a Spartan and dpf delete and moved up to 10.5 towing. no gain empty as I don't drive empty.

I have since reinstalled the DPF, and removed the tune due to some concern about transmission.

in real world, 25% gain would be incredible.. so use that as a guess on the max increase u might get.. so, if u are getting 14, you might add UP TO 3.5..

also, the tuners completely mess up the dash display mpg and miles til empty,
so once u tune, you need to hand calculate your mileage.. my Dash rear 22mpg, when I was getting 10.5 actual.

There re alot of different kits out there that you can do a DPF delete...I got a Spartan and have regreted ever since....Look at all the tuner out there...and read about ALL the pros and cons...

I have an 08 F450 with 4.30 gears. During the summer I regularly tow a camper weighting between 16.5-17,000 lbs. I did a full delete replacing the entire exhaust from the down pipe back with a 4" SS straight pipe. I also run an AFE Stage II SI cold air intake. I run the 210 tow tune full time and don't regret it at all.

My truck stock ran fine and pulled my camper fine. Regens while towing could kick in at every 90 miles or so depending on the terrain. Running empty regens ran around every 130 miles. Even with these relatively close regens I never had any issue making oil, but the very notion of dumping raw fuel down the cylinder didn't really sit well with me so I did the delete/tune.

Power is excellent, turbo lag is pretty much gone, and the tune is very street friendly. I also run about 50 deg. cooler on my EGTs now but I believe the intake change had more to do with that than anything else. Some of the higher HP tunes are less so but the main factor in engine longevity when running these high HP tunes is how you use your right foot. Just because that power is on tap doesn't mean you have to use it every time you move. If you do....well, if you wanna play you better be prepared to pay.

Stock I averaged 13.5 mpgs driving my truck back from Texas to Ohio. Some tanks were better and some were worse, but that's the average. Since tuned my towing mpg "may" be a bit better. I'm relatively certain that on a long highway trip unloaded I could probably squeak out about 16 mpg now. I feel that's not too awful bad in a truck that's pushing 10,000 lbs. Towing the camper I mentioned I average about 9-9.5 mpg. I've gotten worse, and gotten as good as 10.5 but those are generally averages over a single tank or so.

I don't know that I would invest the money in the tuner, delete, intakes, etc, just looking for fuel mileage increases. There are some to be had, but I believe those stories of guys going from 10-12 to 20+ are just that, stories.

If you want better performance and a way to do away with any regen related engine issues I think it's a great way to go. Just keep in mind what you are capable of doing with these tuners. Use it with good common sense and you should be good to go. Adding up to 350 HP, and the torque that goes with it, to a stock drive train and expecting everything to work seamlessly when using that much power is unreasonable. Unfortunately there seems to be no shortage of unreasonable knuckle heads in the world.

I love H&S. But I would have went with Spartan except for the inability to shift on the fly. There's no telling when I'll have to tow a small load or a large load so I liked the fact I could change to zero additional power without re-flashing my PCM which can take 15-20 minutes.

SCT Livewire , its kind of big and bulky but I don't always use it for gauges....long hauls usually.

Yeah ok, I'm somewhat familiar with them. Are they the ones supposed to be getting out of the tuning market in some fashion? One of the bigger names supposedly is and supposedly due to pressure from the EPA. But, internet rumors and all, you know how that goes.

I don't know how you do it. Now that I have the Spartan I'm obsessive about the gauge features! I can't move without turning of the display so I can keep an "eye" on everything. Constantly watching temps, boost, torque slip, etc. Pretty silly but I can't help myself.

I don't use the truck much during the week, cause I have a company truck, but now that I think of it, I do grab the display a lot...I too like to know whats going down under the hood!

Some of the higher HP tunes are less so but the main factor in engine longevity when running these high HP tunes is how you use your right foot. Just because that power is on tap doesn't mean you have to use it every time you move. If you do....well, if you wanna play you better be prepared to pay.

This pretty well describes my experience and how I view the tuner and deletes. Mine is an Edge tuner. I don't worry about the EGR gunk in the intake, the growth and dilution of the sump oil, the waste of fuel... and now I get just under 15mpg empty, 10.5 with the 5th wheel.

My truck is a tool, not a trophy. I want it to be efficient and reliable and I feel I have maximized both. There's also admittedly an intangible benefit of saluting the bureaucrats with an extended central digit.

Yes, first Superchips/Edge backed out due to pressure from the EPA/CARB. At that time, Banks also stopped production on a planned race version of their tuner. More recently SCT has backed out as well for the same reasons.
