Is that better than sea foam? I agree $1000 is way too much. even if they broke some bolts.

So I'm guessing that you never had to do this repair yourself?

The bright side is that if it were a true engine knock from say a spun bearing, you would be looking at several thousands to fix it.

No I haven't done a manifold before. I have broken bolts. A little nervous about it because space is tight. Would it help if I heated them first? Or would penetrating oil be best?

I am thrilled that it isn't the engine!

Remove the front wheels and then the wheel well liners. With those out of the way you end up giving yourself a lot more working room.

I figured that was the way to get to it. But I don't have an impact wrench and I'm a girl so can't muscle the bolts. I usually depend on a long lead pipe on the end of my socket wrench for power.

Spray them with pb blaster like I said to losen rusted bolts or at least make it easier ( sea foam and pb blaster are 2 different products ), you have bolts around the manifold and 2 more where connects to the pipe.

I was talking about the deep creep by sea foam. Thats what I usually use. Just wondering how it compares to the pb blaster.

"Deep Creep" makes "PB" look like horse pee.

If you weren't 700 miles away I'd say grab the parts, bring it by and we'd knock it out in an afternoon.

I had heard that hydrogen peroxide and vinegar mixed eats steel. Does anyone know if it eats aluminum? Thought maybe I could spray some on and let it eat the bolt smaller so it wouldnt bust off. But I don't want to damage the head.

Cracked Manifold?

Gardengirl..Was it cracked? Did you fix it? If you did, did it solve the knock? I have the same knock, and no one can figure it out? Thanks Bob
