Power and MPG loss into the 1992+ 4.9 i6?!

While checking up on the specs to my 1992 F150 auto 4spd I noticed that according to mpg.gov the MPG of mine is a sad 12city and wiki states only 145hp. Yet the 1991 and older generation i6 auto gets 14city and wiki gives it 165hp.
Anyone know what was changed, and if mine can be modified.
I live in the city and while I enjoy this truck I get the lower end of the MPGs and pushed me to contemplate trading it.

Sounds like you are right on target. It sounds like you would spend a lot of money just to get another 2mpg, but that's your decision. Go for it.

Well yes, but I'm wondering why the older model has more Horses and MPGs?

Wiki and other online databases are often wrong, as far as I know the 4.9 has always been rated at 145-150hp and keep in mind the way engines are rated has changed over the years so sometimes the numbers change even though the engines have not, but like anything else the actual HP and milage of an individual vehicle will vary depending upon the configuration(2wd/4wd, reg cab/extra cab, F150/F250, etc) and state of tune among other things.
A truck is not a very efficient city vehicle, you could realize double to triple the milage with one of many cars available but if that isn't something you fancy then you're going to have to accept the fuel milage a truck gets. That said your truck could be in need of a tunup, if there are any codes stored track down the problem causing them and fix it, and maybe give it an overall tunup(plugs, cap, rotor, high output coil, oil and filter change) and you could see 2-4mpg increase.
