Started,now on to fuel pump

Got the flathead 8 started,running on the gas i pour in the carb. I disassembled the fuel pump yesterday.Boy, am i proud i did not try to run it.Full of crud.Any advice on rebuild or replace? So far Dennis Carpenter has the only rebuild kit that i have found. thanks.

I would just replace it with a new one.Some times places like discount auto & auto zone
just might have it,it only cost you a phone call,try napa too

yeah,rebuild is 10.00$ plus shipping,local napa or ma & pa parts store is 49.95,with new settlement bowl. Might be better off considering all the trash in the old one.

Antique Auto Parts Cellar, if you want to keep it original (providing it is the original pump). Take the number off the mounting flange, as they have hundreds kits for the many, many pumps made over the years.

Whatever you get, make sure it is for use with modern fuel, not an older OEM kit. They won't last a week. My experience has been, if it doesn't say specifically it is good for alcohol or MBTE tainted fuels, it isn't.

Thanks for advice. Guess i probably will go for a pump.I don't think i can get all of the crud out of mine,although i really would like to rebuild it.

You'd be surprised at what you can get out of the pump if you spend a few minutes cleaning it. The kits from the previously mentioned source makes their own valves/diaphragms with modern fuel proof materials.

Went for a new pump, lines are different size,going to the parts store tomorrow,i want to get this thing where i can pull it in the shop on its own power.
