In my case which was just resolved in late September it was the fuel sending unit wires had looped themselves around the float arm and held the float in the Full position. The wires need to be tie-wrapped to the rheostat mounting plate. Easy fix.

The same problem on 2007 with v10. The float mechanism jarred loose from the pump and floating around in the tank.

well I hope my float is just stuck. I went to sturgeon bay Wisconsin for Christmas from the Houston area and tried to pull a moving truck out that had ran off the driveway into the yard that was about a foot and a half drop and I yanked on him a few times and never could get enough traction to get him out. I got close a few times and got him about half way or so up over the bump but once I was done I notice my fuel gauge showed me having a full tank and I knew I only had a half a tank or less.

I had a similar problem but noticed that sometimes when I turned the key on the fuel gauge would read full and if I turned the key on and off quickly it would then read correctly. This didn't work all the time but made me wonder about the switch under the column that is actuated by the key.
I purchased a used one for $10 off eBay and installed it. My fuel gauge has been working fine ever since.

Here's a link to one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-IGNITI...NZONhv&vxp=mtr

Be sure to check your dash grounds also.
I believe there is one under your driver's side kick panel as well as up under the dash.

That's how I made mine stick. New tunes, Adrenalin, hutch and harpoon mod done all at the same time. I just had to see what she would do. Tank was about 1/3 full. You pay to play.

I just pulled the tank to fix the same probleml. I thought by disconnecting the plug for the sending unit would get me an E reading, but apparently that isn't the case, so I finally gave in and pulled the tank. In my case, the wire broke off of the sending unit. 2 min with a soldering iron and it was fixed

I'm planning to do to that eventually for now I just go off my tripometer. I have looked under the dash and didn't notice anything loose.

Hello, I caught the gas gauge going up to the full line and it's been stuck there for two days now. Could it be our problem is similar?

Well I know I’m resurrecting an old thread but just wanted to thank the folks at FTE for coming through again. I’ve been working on my dad's neglected 2000 F350 today and one of the tasks was fixing the fuel gauge. It would go to above full with key on.

I found a broken wire near the connector at the frame and tank. There was enough wire to pull it out over the frame to work on it. A little solder and heat shrink and it’s good to go.

Thanks for all the info shared here on the forum!
