im really interested in doing this as well. ive always love the look of satin black paint. but I don't have a lot of cash to through into this especially after I get the wiring repaired and the engine tuned up. plus theres quite a few oil leaks from the engine, the t-case, and the rear axle that I need to tend to. would yall just rattle can it or what?

I have. I painted my truck with it about 8 years ago. It held up good for a long time but it has faded some and become chalky. Part of that is probably my fault for not washing it and taking care of it enough. Here are some pics.

Nope. No hardner needed. I just thinned it and sprayed it with a binks hvlp. Any spray gun will do though. I do not recommend tractor and implement primer. It's thick, takes forever to dry and doesn't sand well.

With whatever paint you go with there are always application windows to prevent adhesion failure or cracking. If you wait too long it may require a light sand. too early and your material could be on too thick and cause all kinds of issues. generally paint is quite simple and predictable but when it goes wrong it will cause endless headaches and a smaller bank account. Check for compatibility between products and stay close to the climate recommendations and topcoat windows.

Thin ratio/how has it held up/how long in between coats/can u wash it at a carwash... and did u sand in between coats and did u buff at the end?

I've been painting so long I just know when it's the right consistency. As long as it's not catalyst paint I just add a little thinner at a time till it feels right.

I usually wait around a 1/2 hour or so between coats. Depends on how it's drying. Temp plays a big role in how long I wait. When you paint a whole car in the summer, by the time you spray the last panel the first is ready for the second coat.

This paint job I did sand between coats very lightly with 600 grit. The last coat I left alone, no buffing or anything with matte black.

I have not washed it at a car wash but it holds up to pressure washing. The paint has held up well. Painted it I think 3 years ago. However it is kept in the garage.

It says to wait 24 hours inbetween coats... i wish i knew exactly how u did this 1.. thinner and inbetween coats.. your paint job looks perfect.. Does it pick up all the oils from your hands etc when u touch it etc..?
