Throttle Pedal assy question..

What the heck do I have here? I picked up the two pedal assemblies (far left and far right) because they had the little ball swivel still attached. I tried either of these and the geometry just wont cut it. The middle one is out of my '56 and seems to have the best geometry for me. However, it's missing the ball swivel part the hooks to the gas pedal. So my question here is what are these other two from? I know these are from '53-'55 trucks but they wre already removed and the fella I got them from couldn't remeber what engine or exact years they were from. Is the one in the middle (the one originally removed from my truck) the correct one for my truck? Can a replacement ball swivel be found? Or am I gonna need to replace the whole shebang? Is the '56 assembly a '56 only part?

53 is different than 54-on because the 53 used the flat V8. For 54-56 there are different assemblies used for manual vs. automatic, for parcel vans vs conventioal cabs, COEs, etc. This is as close as I can get to what a 56 should have (with the A/T stuff omitted).

I'd suggest removing the ball from the others and putting it on your known '56 linkage.

Is there any reason you can't simply remove the ball stud swivel from one of the others and attach/use it on your correct one?

@52 Merc:
Well I thought about that. However I cannot locate just the ball stud piece by itself. I don't want to tear up the other two linkages as they are in great shape. Besides it looks as if someone tried some kind of repair before as it looke like the hole is all wallered out, so i doubit I'd get a stock pin to work anyways. Probably could figure out something, but was hoping to find a complete replacement.

@NumberDummy:
Is there a part stamped on the pedal assembly somewhere? I cannot seem to find one other than a number in the aluminum piece itself. I don't know which one of those part numbers you listed would be the same as what I have. As far as what the truck had in it, according to the data plate, it was a 272 2V with automatic. This seems plausable as the column that was in it was an auto column. Also found a strange switch of sorts under the gas pedal. I'm gonna guess that this was for the overdrive option? Thought o/d was just for the 3 speed manuals? Naturally original engine/trans were long gone by the time I got ahold of the truck.

That's a kickdown switch under the pedal.

I take it you don't have a welder? If you did, moving the ball from one of the others would be a snap. They may be cherry, but if you don't know what they fit they are not that valuable. Swapping parts is your lowest cost alternative.

kickdown switch... ok that makes sense.

Ha Ha... you know I do. (have a welder) I just hate to tear up a part someone else might need or could use to trade for what I do need. These other two are in great shape. But... if i really can't find what I'm lookin for, then you are right.... cut-n-dice time.

The kickdown switch is used with Overdrive only.

The only kickdown switch in the 1948/56 truck parts catalog is listed in the Warner O/D parts list (#14): A9AZ-7A652-A. There is none listed for Ford-O-Matic.

Parts catalog pic in post #2. Note # 9A858. This is not a kickdown switch, it's this: B7TZ-9A858-A .. Accelerator Pedal Detent Stop Assy.

Trans basic part numbers are listed in the 7000/7999 section, or A7000/7999 if an A/T. Fuel related parts are listed in the 9000/9999 section.

AFAIK, there is no part or ID number marked on accelerator assy's. The three I listed apply to 1956's, there are more for other years.
