Buying Advice/Price Thoughts/Incentives

I would love to get some peoples opinons on my new truck situation.

So first of all my 2004 Screw FX4 F150 was stolen a month ago. Thankfully with great insurance they are paying me a pretty nice premium on the value.

Now I am in the market for a new truck. I have my sight set on a new 2011 F150 FX4 Screw 5.0. It stickers at $43,000. I am elegible through my grandma for Z plan which brings it down to $37,500. Plus incentives in my area of $2500 comes to a price before TTL of $35,000. I would assume I can't do any better becuase I am not financing through Ford Credit. Thoughts?

Also the current rebates expire on 10/3. Would it be worth waiting until the new ones come out in hopes they are better? The dealer near me has 3 of the almost exact same trucks so I am not worried about them selling before the new rebates.

Thanks for the help!

First let me say that I think that after rebates you should be able to buy the truck before T,T, and L for somewhere in the $31,500 to $33,000 range without the Z plan. There are dealers around the country selling F-150 trucks for 25% off including rebates. Also you may or may not see the rebates go up or down after the 10/3/11 date. This is only a guess on my part but I do not think that they will go up any or enough to really matter on that date. I would be trying to get the truck for a better price though for SURE.

you can do better than that.

Z plan pricing either isn't very good...or the Dealer isn't giving you the true price. Go to Edmunds.com and get the Invoice Price for that truck with all options. Edmunds is pretty darn close to the actual # from Ford usually.

Also, see if the Dealership (or another one nearby) is part of Costco Car Purchase group. When I bought my 2006 F-150, I showed them my Costco card and got their pricing plan. Stickered at $44,000. Price became instantly $36,000 without any haggling. Then i got all applicable rebates ($5k at time). After the trade I paid a hair over $32k with TT&L.

also, if you want an X-plan pin, you can get one 2 different easy ways.
1. Purchase a few Ford stocks. Print proof off and Fax to Ford. Within 48 hours you'll get your very own X-plan pin e-mailed to you

2. Check the X-plan pin request threads here on FTE. Some nice people shared a few pins with me in the past.

there are many ways to skin a Dealership. Especially as you don't have a trade-in to screw up things. I suggest you shop around and see what other options you have besides the Z pricing.

Thanks guys. I will definetely shop around some more. Luckily in this area there are plenty of 2011's on the lot, and with gas at $4 a gallon I don't see them moving off of the lots much.

The invoice price on Edmunds said $38500 so that is pretty inline with the $37500 Z plan price. However they cannot deal above and beyond that plan price so I will go and see what I can do without it.

Geico is actually paying my rental, a 2011 Fusion. It is nice and all but I am ready to be back in a truck after a month now. I absolutely loved my 2004, It was in great condition and only had 83,000 miles on it. I thought about trading it in last year on a new one and the dealer only wanted to give me $14K, and geico gave me $19,500K. It was a crappy situation to have the truck stolen but I can't beat that number.

you can save quite a bit of money thru the NRA...seems like the savings changes often.
I checked this out when I bought my 2010..at that time it was about $5000
off dealer price...
but like I said it changes...here is a link..save a lot with a $35 membership..

Before you announce to the dealer that you intend to buy a truck using a plan purchase, try to negotiate a better deal.

Using Ford credit will get you another $1000 off the price and you can get a rate that will likely be better than anyone else.

Using a plan to purchase a vehicle caps dealer doc fees and nullifies dealer transfer fees if applicable.

Additionally, talk some sense with your sales manager, not the sales person. Make them show you ALL of the incentives available and how they work with plan purchases. There are tons of rules and other rebates that are not mentioned on the Ford site.

The sales manager or the F&I office can get you pre qualified for a ford car loan unless this is a cash deal. I'd still finance it for a couple of months just to get the additional grand.

I did all this this summer. I went to my dealer with my X-plan paperwork in hand but before I brought out those guns, I negotiated first and made out better in the end.

I am 38 years old and have been a member of the NRA since I was 12. I had no idea that they had special plan. My question from you guys is >>>>>>>> Do you know of anyone who has actually used this plan successfully. If this is true it puts me in the market much sooner. Probably by 4 months.

Do yo know if it can be ordered or does it have to come from dealer stock?

Thanks

FWIW, I just spec'd out a truck that is on the lot here localy and the NRA price was 3k higher than the walk in "no haggle" price.

Walk in is 29,999 for XLT 5.0 Screw 4x4 tow/convinience
NRA was 33,xxx for same thing ....

I would assume that the NRA price is the x-plan price just like Costco.

the price seems to change from time to time...I know that when I checked on my identical truck it was about 5 grand...at that time...more than x plan...
can't hurt to check prices.. and did you put in your zip code to find your participating dealer in your area?

Not sure if that was directed at me or not, but I did putin a zipcode for my town.

it seems like NRA might be getting A plan or something else.

I did check the X plan price on the truck i've been looking at, but even that wasn't close to the walk in "no haggle" price listed on the website.

If they come up with a 0% interest incentive, it is going to be hard to pass up as the monthly payment would be less than $400.

They call it thier "nice price" ... catchy, but from what I see online it is hard to beat.

Crew cab 4x4 5.0 17" wheels PW PL 3.55 regular axle for $30K .... I'm not seeing anything that is better than that online. (Except the darn lease price)

I found the X-package plan is not all that great. When my wife and I bought her new Escape last year, the X-pkg. plan (we used through her dad's business) was higher than our negotiated price... not by alot, but approx. $500 on a 27K vehicle.....

I woulds say w/o any doubt rebates will be HIGHER when the current ones expire. Reason? Toyota. They'll be trying to recoup lost market share now that they're up to full production levels.

I followed the rebates all through the end of the last model year as I was nearing my time to buy. In my area, the rebates now are as high as they were at MY end last year.

On the F-150, Ford staggers the rebate offerings depending on cab configuration and trim level.

It's advisable to go on the Ford web site, plug in your zip, enter the vehicle you want and see how it shakes out. Then you can check FMC interest rates and such.

The rebates are much higher on the XLTs then on the Lariets. The F-150s that I've seen, and heard of, going for $11,000 under sticker price are never Lariets or the pricier models.
