I have a '91 Ranger 4.0 with the manual transmission. It came with the single row radiator. I'm trying to put in the bigger radiator that came with the auto tranny. The original fan shroud didn't fit with the bigger radiator, so I went to the junkyard (oops, I mean "auto recycling yard") to get a shroud. There were no 4.0 auto Rangers there, but there were plenty of 4.0 Explorers with the auto. Since they both take the same radiator, I thought the shroud would be the same. It's not. The clips on the bottom of the radiator don't line up with the tabs on the shroud that fit in the clips. I may try another yard that has some Rangers of the same year to see if the shroud is different and will slip right in.

I know there are a couple of ways around this, but I'm wondering what you all have done - get the right shroud or hack up the radiator and put some new slots in the right place. I hate to hack up the radiator for fear of damaging it.

 

OK. I think I have this figured out. I'm going back to the salvage yard for a steering wheel so I'll confirm it while I'm there.
