Good to know. I know I could search but since you mentioned it, could I run into any clearance issues with 35's if I stick with factory 16" wheels? Kind of like the subtle look.
nice truck!
the factory wheels aren't wide enough and the tires will rub on the leaf springs at full lock. look for a wheel with no more than 4.5" backspacing and no wider than 9" if you want them to not hit the fenders, wheel well liners during suspension up travel.
you could go wider with a taller lift
You will still have some rubbing with 6 and 37's especially depending on your wheel choice. You also likely have 3.73 gears in you truck as those were the most common from the factory and going to 37's will make the truck a dog and want to do a lot of down shifting. 35's are really pushing it anyway with out a regear as these trucks with either gas motor really benefit form gears 4.30 with stock size tires or equivalent to put you in that range with larger tires. I wouldn't want to go any bigger than my 33's with out a regear. There's no reason you can't stick with the 4 and 35's if that's what you want to do the 7inch wide stock wheels just aren't wide enough for tires that are a around 12.5" wide if you need help spending money on the truck you've come the right place.

I don't agree the 12.5" can be made to fit on 7" wheel it is just not recommended and most reputable shops will not do it due to liability. I had 35x12.5x17 on my stock 17" oem wheels at 7" width. I even towed over 10k on them with no issues but when it came time to replace them it was hard to find a shop who would. I had a blow out. "Not due to width but nail stuck in it" I ended up going back to stock but damn I miss those especially that wide on my dually.

Your free to disagree all you want but one thing you may not have considered is that the backspacing and offset is different on you dually wheels than the wheels for a single rear wheel truck especially being that yours is an 05 with the coil spring front end and op's truck is leaf sprung and wether you considered that or not while the tire will mount to the stock wheel like you say it's not recommend and it will hit the springs like dark jedi said above. Putting a tire that wide on a wheel that skinny may also result in the entire tread patch making contact with the ground like it should especially when you air them up past 40 or 50 psi and with e rated tires that's the low end of inflation to begin with you may not have had this problem but I've seen it several times. Like I said your free to disagree all you want and it's fine if you do but I think I have some pretty valid points.
Mike
With regard to OPs original question and your points you made, they are valid. The only part of your response I find not valid is this. Maybe it's not what you meant but I took it for what it says.
7inch wide stock wheels just aren't wide enough for tires that are a around 12.5" wide
That is not true because it can be done and has been done by many with zero problems. I say that with respect to those who can run that wide wheel and tire combo on our truck setups. However your right the OP specific truck it would not allow it.
Mine were inflated above 50psi and always wore even. The only issue I had was I needed to run spacers for rear dually. Any ways you are right the point I was trying to make is although it's not recommended it is something someone can do depending on their setup using 7" width wheels.
