actually thats the original color, 1939 they were grey chassis and red hood and fenders. originally came with an all aluminum hood so most people polish the hood and grills when they restore them instead of painting them.
Is it a Ford or Ferguson? I thought all the 9n's were dark gray? Not that familiar w/ the Fergusons but I thought they were all gray as well until Massey bought them.
This is actually a Ford - Ferguson 9n. First year of the Ford and last year of the Ferguson Im pretty sure.
Don't remember the whole story, but Ferguson invented the 3pt system and Ford agreed to use it on his new 9n's and they were badged Ford w/ a "Ferguson System" emblem on it as well. Sometime later in the mid 40's they got in a dispute and Ford kept using the same basic system but w/ a minor modification and no loger gave Ferguson credit - obviously a lawsuit followed and Ford ultimately had to pay quite a bit. During that time though, Ferguson started making his own tractors to compete directly w/ Ford's 2n and 8n - the TE 20 and 30. So he kept on making tractors up until the merge w/ Massey Harris.
Anyway - nice looking tractor! I've got an 8n that's still pretty much factory and runs great, it's hard to kill those old things.
Here's my old Ford...She was restored over 10 years ago!!
Still looks good! I've thought about converting mine to 12v but it still starts good on 6v and the generator still works so I can't convince myself it's necessary. One of these days though!
