1987 f-150 302efi idle problem
well my sis jus got a new set of wheels...well her and her better half...anyway it is an 87 f-150 2wd auto with a 302 efi duel tanks ...it is ok for a few months so they have wheels...but it is a lil on the rusty side and the back of the cab underneath is very "aerodynamic" if ya get the idea...lol
anyway it idles high all the time and the idle adjustment screw is backed all the way away from the plate thing that it contacts ... the fuel pump relay had some fancy wiring done to it ...i looked in my hanes manual and acc ording to that what was done was the yellow wire was cut(the wire from the ignition that i believe powers the relay and pump)the red wire was cut(the wire running to/from the egr vent solenoid)the red wire still in the harness now cut was spliced into an orange wire running to a sealed black thing labeled as a fuse and the other end of the red wire coming from the relay was also spliced in with the red from the harness and orange froim the "fuse"the other orange wire from the "fuse" was spliced into the yellow)(supposed to be ignition )wire on the relay the yellow wire on the harness more less taped off...
when you very slightly move the fuel pup relay with the fancy wiring done to the connector the idle will drop way low as if fuel was being interrupted and then jump way up and race for a miute and go back to what is normal(still high idle) i havent tested the yellow wire in the harness yet for pwr when the ignition is on to see if there was any reason to eliminate it ...and if no problems exist me and her other half will geta another connector splice it in clean and weather proof and replace the f pmp relay too because the case is cracked too...
also on a test of vaccum lines to see if there was a vaccum culprit...when the vac line is taken off the map sensor the idle drops but is a lil rough (im told,, i was at work when this was discovered)and when the vac line is capped off it smoothes out ...so i am led to believe there is a fault in the map sensor...it is going to cost them 45 beans so he wants to be sure its his problem so i plan to bring the voltmeter over tomorrow and test it like a haynes book says to
any comments or help ..well you know what to do with em

1987 f-150 302efi idle problem
hey steve looked around and got nowheres fast if any one has any suggestions then please feel free i m confused and boggle we changed the tps sensor and still idling high with no changes the only thing that brings the idle down is to unhook the vacuum line from map sensor
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE IT COULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR ?

well update.....found the source of the problem... few hours and a few dollars later the gasket for where the aluminum thing meets the intake had a big part missing meaning a gap between the intake and the intake manifold...
now it idles nice and smoothe...still havent figured why there is no power at the ignition wire for the fuel pump relay...but time will tell
