going to look at 97 f 250 4x4 but

im going to look at a 97 f 250 4x4 xlt heavy duty with a 351w auto for sale.Its in really good shape with no rust about 130k miles but its Unregistered and the guy wont let me drive it on the street only in his driveway.his driveway is pretty long about maybe 50 yards long, like half a football feild.but still i cant test drive it the way i want since i cant drive it on the street what should i keep and eye out for and look at?i dont wanna get ripped off.I know it needs a tuneup its been sitting in his yard for 7 months but its runs.any info will help.hes asking 4 grand for it.

It's been my personal experience that if someone won't let you drive a vehicle, they are hiding something. I can understand if the truck doesn't have current license plates, but for $4K you should be at least drive up and down the local road where he lives.

I'd personally walk away from it, that's too much $$ to chance with.

I agree with the above poster!
Those 5.8's in the HDs have the dual thermactor system on them, lots of places for vacuum leaks. Not really a big deal, but you certainly don't want to pay top dollar for that truck if it needs a buncha PITA repairs. The test drive would show you whats wrong and how much less the truck might be worth to you.

I think you guys are right I thought about it and since he will only let me drive it in his driveway i dont think I want to stop and look at it this weekend and chance 4 grand oh well.guess im on to the next truck but its not a ford its a dodge and i only like fords.not many pickups for sale around here.grrrrr

oh and by the way the truck does have a plate on it but he didnt pay the re registration makes no sense to me.
