Bed Lights question

I am considering getting these lights. Recon Bed Rail Cargo Area LED Kit | LED Cargo Ligths | Recon Accessories

I have an Undercover SE smooth. I was wondering if there was any way to have the lights go on when the cover is opened?

I'm assuming an "Undercover SE smooth" is a hard tonneau cover? If so, you could use a mercury switch on the cover to activate the lights.

I wouldn't do a tilt switch because youd have to wire it to the cover. If I was doing it for a customer, I would take a piece of 1" aluminum flat stock, drill it to go into a bolt on the latch side bracket, bend it 1/2" short of the top of the bracket and drill a hole for a plunger switch. I would find a courtesy circuit to power it.

Robbie, have you installed your lights yet and if so how do you like them? Been considering adding bed lights to mine but have never seen any in person or discussed with anyone that has them. Thanks.

I used a GM Door Switch due to the fact it is extra long and adjustable. You'll need a little pad of rubber on the cover for the switch to last. Attached it to the Tonneau frame, which is attached to the bed rail, with a Right angle 90. I ran the wires inside of wire loom and pulled it following the loom for the tail lamps. I Stripped the Insulation off the wire to the under hood light and soldered a Western Union splice there to a Waterproof in line fuse. Out of the fuse I spliced to the wire going back. By attacing it to the under hood lamp, it is on the Battery Saver. I made my connections behind the Tail lights, to the Lamp holders and crossing over to the other side.

i want to add bed lights to my bed too, under the rails, maybe rope lights or leds, my truck has stock lights so i don't want the cheap blue looking leds, just the average "warm light yellow light" like the headlights. i want to mount a switch in the cab on the middle console. ive seen a toyota tacoma with a set up in person, it was awesome.

they need to make cool crap like this standard in the newest model of f150s, the lights would be very practical
