Well I'm in southwest Wa, thinking about going to SoCal this summer, love to see your truck, maybe I could bring you some spare parts if I go with the manual...

In that case, you should chit can the 12v swap and go with the CAT 3208! Heck, then you could bring me the whole shebang and I'll let you drive my truck around the block. Maybe even two laps. I'm 90 miles north of Sac and 20 miles from 5 so if you don't mind a detour come on by.

I'm hoping to have this thing running in the next week so I spent the day trying to find a 205. Dang they are hard to find around here. The two I found were $250. That seemed pretty outrageous so I went to the pick and pull. Total bust. Grabbed some good door hinges though and took the youngest for a wheelbarrow ride.

I want to go up to 1350 u-joints and from what I was told, the 24 yokes are not available. Kinda hard to find much about Dana 24s. From what I've read, they are higher geared, straight cut and don't put up with a ton of torque. Not what I want. I'd rather do it right the first time. Is $250 crazy money for these? Am I being too cheap?

Honestly $250 seems about right. $200 is beter, but "normal" from what I've seen. They are semi desirable.

I've checked here locally and it seems to be close to what they're asking for 205's where you're at, I only found one craigslist deal for less. I did find about 5 Dana 24's, heck I'd never heard of one until I bought this one for this swap and the guy told me it was a 205, once I realized it wasn't I gave him a hundred bucks and took it home in case I couldn't find a 205 and I already drove an hour to meet him. I did lots of research too and I think I'm definetly gonna go with a 205 behind the cummins.

Update:

Been really busy working on this thing. I got a 205 and mounted it. Went to the local NAPA and got a price on new battery cables. Quoted $105 so I gave them the go ahead. Stopped by to pick them up for $139.00!!!!!!!!! My buddies just laughed. Then they laughed as I bitched. Man my buddies suck. Ok, beer on, rant off.

Ordered a rear drive line today. 3.5" cv with a flange from Tom Wood's Custom Drive Shafts. Gonna run the intermediate from the Highboy (1410 to 1310) until I can afford a new one with 1410's. Just a few more things and it should be running.

4.10s or however you write it. Yeah, just about done. I'm both excited about finishing it, yet tired of working on it. Kinda weird. Only thing that keeps me going is the fact that I'll have it done and Chasetruck will still be telling people how HE'S gonna do it. Haha. (puts pinky to pursed lip)

eh - I'm in no rush. I'd rather do it right the 1st time & take my time doing it then finish quickly & have something I don't like & tear down again to re-do. As I've said before many times - I'm picky about my stuff. Much more picky than most...

That is just the beginning of the choices you'll have to make.

There are many more to come! Unfortunately for me I'm rebuilding much of my truck at this point rather than just adding in a cool motor. My current debate deals with how to run my new brake lines & how to mount my radiator...

Hey fellas. Making a ton of progress. Driveline will be here tomorrow. Wirings about done, fuel lines are finished and I'm just about there with the tcase cross member. Kinda stuck with the trans cooler lines. There is a heat exchange on the block under the turbo. Should I plumb it through there AND the radiator AND the trans cooler?

My tranny is plumbed from the tranny to the heat exchanger on the right side of the block under the turbo and out to the factory trans cooler, when you say radiator I guess you have a factory auto tranny radiator with the built in cooler, I would use all of them, the A518 needs lots of cooling to last. IMO. Keep us posted buddy...

That heat exchanger on the block, under the turbo is what they used for a tranny cooler on the dodge if I remember right (been WAAAY too long since I tore down my donor...). From what I remember they are somewhat problematic. I'd do a little searching/reading on them if you can before deciding to use it. I dumped mine.
