1988 F-150 reliability?

I am looking into purchasing a 1988 F-150, I was just wondering how well these trucks hold up.

It is a 1988 F150 XLT 4x4

Thank you,
Barry

well, I bought mine for 500 bucks, did tune up, alignment and u joints. I have put over 50k on it (175k currently) in the past 3 years. just a few weeks ago I got home for R&R and after others failed, I dropped a battery in it and fired it up for the first time in 8 months and proceded to drive it across the state of colorado. drove mostly scenic byways, trail ridge road, colorado headwaters, flat tops, and it even squeaked out just over 14mpg while climbing all those mountains in 3rd and 2nd.

and as some icing on the cake, here it is towing a cummins:

I got a 1989 f150 5.0. Its got 280,000 miles and starts every morning. It eats one qt of oil every 5000 miles. I bought her for $500, rebuilt the trans, painted it, and had to put a coil, fuel pressure regulator, and ignition module, brake lines, and bearings. Shes been good to me. Here is how she sits now. I have had her for 6 years.

I did a Dana 44 solid axle and 9" swap.

For a vehicle of that age and mileage, a quart of oil every 3000 to 5000 miles is acceptable. Oh, and that is a nice looking truck too.

The only thing wrong with my 5.0 oil wise is the gasket on the pan is bad. Otherwise, no loss of oil. Specs in the signature.
