losing the turbo
#16
well i unhooked the electrical connector from the ebpv solenoid under turbo. hooked trailer to it and went driving. and what do you know, psi gets to about 20 then 0. let off throttle and back on it and boost will come back as long as you dont get close to 20. guess im going to make some fittings to pressurize the system and see what i come up with after that. unless someone else has another idea.

Check that end play before you grenade that turbo, I really think you are stalling it! Just pull the intake tube and look for damage on the edges of the compressor wheel where it comes up to the edge of the housing push and pull against the shaft center I'll bet you can get close to 3/16" end play!

well i did check end play to be safe. no play. but i did figure it out. all the trouble and it was the air filter not letting enough air in so i guess it was stalling the turbo out. the filter did not look that bad. i wouldnt even replaced if it wasnt causing problems. it was a fram filter. thanks for all the replys.

Did you check for boost leaks yet? My vote is for a torn boot. I've blown my hot pipe off twice, felt like I lost 70% of my power and the truck was puking tons of black smoke. Sounds like the boots are holding until 20psi then the split opens. You'd think it would happen sooner than 20psi though.
