New cb & antenna install

Heres a pic of my mounting I posted in Webshots CB antenna install pictures from mountains photos on webshots

I did not use anything at all, everything sounds crisp and clear. Power comes from an empty fuse slot in the fuse box right by the antenna. We did the same install in my brother's 350 (a twin to mine) and didn't use anything to supress noise on his either. He uses a Galaxy radio in his.

Do you use the CB much? I guess that's a stupid question (sorry), because you wouldn't have installed if you didn't. I guess I just didn't realize they were still mainstream in many parts of the country. I had one in my first car, and a base unit at the house, but it's been years since I've used one. I like your install a lot, well done.

Nice clean install. I did a similar setup on my 02 550 but I replaced my AM/FM antenna with a 4' firestick am/fm antenna on the pass side and used a 4' FSII Firestick on the driver side, giving the illusion of dual antennas even though one is for radio and one is for CB.
Don't get me wrong dual CB antennas would be sweet, but our trucks are too narrow for them they would only interfere with each other and cause loss of signal.
Also wanted to add that I noticed you cut the Firestick antenna mount base and bolted it onto it self. Just my opinion... but that looks really weak with only 2 sheet metal screws holding the bracket to the truck. I would think a good branch and BOOM its gone along with your cowl and wipers.
I would get a thin piece of SS angle iron and notch it to fit under both the hood bracket bolts, then bolt the top half of your cut bracket to that. It will never go anywhere and reduce loss of signal from vibration, and you could have kept more meat on your mount by lowering the cut and using 4 bolts. making it extremely durable.
I will post pics later if I am allowed or links for those with the older trucks that would like this set up.
again LOOKS GOOD!!!

Davgt500, I am looking at putting my CB in the exact location and powering it from the cigarette lighter inside the console as it is always live, but getting to it looks like a small project. Where did you power your cb from. As for the antenna location, does it bother your line of sight any? Thanks

Yes i am wondering the same thing as to blocking line of sight... has it caused you any issues or is it not really noticeable when sitting behind the wheel? Love the install. so much better than just getting the magnet and slapping it on the roof. Been looking for options to mount an antenna and i thank you very much for posting this awesome one!
