Roof Rack parts

I have been searching for parts for my roof rack and cannot find anything. If you take the big racks off there is a metal piece that acts like the sping when you lock and unlock the racks so they will slide. Does anyone know where I can get parts besides going to Ford Dealer?

Did you lose or break some parts? It looks like it is a Ford rack. You might find something on Ebay.

Be very gentle with those 'springs'. I broke mine also while trying to wax under the rack bars. Note, they still work, but place that springless cross-bar inside the smaller locking cross-bar to keep 'em from sliding off. Better yet, take them off and get another 0.01mpg!

No, I haven't lost anything. I took it off so I would not loose anything. What is the porpose of the skinny rails that pretty sit right on roof of the truck?

The skinney rails are actually more stable than the fat ones. The big fat ones have those spring clips that come loose under the lever thingy. Mine are not broken but they don't do a good job of locking the rails so they don't move. I had a roof trunk on mine and the wind force pushed the trunk back to where the hatch would hit it when you opened it. The link above has a good mod if you have extra nuts like go on the bottom of the skinney bars. This allows you to lock the fatbars to the rack much more securely.

If you go to mcmaster.com and search for 3855K631 you will find the ***** with the stainless studs on them. I did not find a source for the square nut plates though. I don't have enough nut plates to mount all four bars on mine and still have the nut plates for the fat bars. I use the nut plates on the slots in the fat bars with studs in them and mount my roof trunk directly to the studs instead of using the clamps that come with the trunk that won't fit under the rack. I don't know why they made the rack so low on something that has the aerodynamics of a Mack truck.
