No start issue

I have read a few post here before about symptoms of fuel pumps going bad, such as hard starting on the morning start-up. Well, I had those symptoms for a long time and then last winter, it gave up the ghost completely, so I dropped the tank and put in a new pump. Ever since then, I still occassionly have the same type of symptoms. It will not fire at all until I key on and off several times and then it starts right up. It seems that I can hear the pump kick on, so it doesn't seem to be a relay or pump problem. Btw, it almost always does it after I have driven it, shut it down and tried to restart! Any thoughts anyone?

Replace the starter solenoid ($10 part) and see if the problem goes away. But i'm betting it's your start switch what's going to fail. The abuse of the switch you have describe would probably be the cause (move ON, OFF, several times, hard starts, etc...).

If you have two tanks you may have changed the wrong fuel pump or the new pump is no good.
If you only have one tank then you may have a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) or the new pump is no good.

That's a couple of good things to check. Only one tank, so that's not it and I put in a reputable brand name pump, so I hope that's not it. As for the solenoid, I suppose that it could be sending voltage to starter, but not allowing spark. Never thought of that, because in my experience, they have always failed on the stater end.
But i'm betting it's your start switch
Are you referring to the ignition switch?

you may have a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR)

I have checked the pressure before and it's always good. Where is the FPR at?
