1957 F-800 Big Job 7000 orig miles

OK, the 'restoration' starts this week. The truck sat unused in a firehall for most of its life. Now it moves my toys around. Everything works well, just needs freshening up.

I guess restore is the wrong word. If the roof didnt leak, I'd use it pretty much as is. Most of the work I have planned is on the deck. I am pulling everything off and installing a new single deck, planks with steel frame. I will never restore it to a level that I'd be afraid to drive it. I plan to work this old girl hard. The roof has an old patch that was poorly done at the front edge, and it needs to be fixed. I'd love to keep the original paint, its a little sunbaked, but still quite good. Its damn fun to drive.....but I still have to keep looking at the stick to get the gear I want. The sequence is odd. Thanks for the help w/pics.

I believe it has a 312, and the shifter has the same sequence as the Clark O/D mentioned in the link above. I'll have to confirm it tomorrow. I am anxious to get it on the road. It is roadworthy, but needs deck work for sure. My 1st love is 60's pontiac muscle cars, so I have a lot to learn about this old Ford. It will help me haul more cars home!

I always thought the 57 to 60's Big Jobs looked so bad *** with the three cooling holes below the grill. Very nice truck you have. You like muscle Pontiacs of the sixties, you will have to get you a Super Duty hood scoop for your Ford.

312's were not installed in trucks. Only installed in 1956/57 Ford/Thunderbird Passenger Cars and 1956/60 Mercury Passenger Cars.

A 1957 F800 will have a Lincoln derived Y block, either a 302 or a 332. The engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN, post what it is.

If you post the VIN, all the codes from the Rating Plate, I will decode all of it. The Rating Plate will be found either on the A pillar, or on the inside of the glovebox door.

i have an extra scoop.
In that drawing, i see it has a 57 grill and a '60 hood badge. According to my research, those '60 hood badges are a scarce because they only came on the big trucks with the '57 hood in 1960. I lucked out on finding a near perfect one on Ebay that was likely passed around to people trying to install it on their '60 pickup, then realizing it wont fit their pickup.

Reminds me of an old big job my grandfather used to have. Thanks for posting picks and glad you're putting the old boy to work.

Welcome to FTE

Post the VIN & all the codes stamped on the Rating Plate...I'll decode them.
