VIN & Build Info?
Good evening,
I recently purchased a '62 F100 and could niot register it because the DMV said my VIN was not a real number. I was finally able to locate the full VIN and build tag and was wondering about a few of the codes
F10JE311609
F10-F100
J=?
E?
311609-?
WB-22
Color LM-?
Trans A-?
Axle 11-?
DSO 12-?
The box is about 6 inches narrower than the cab and looks like the box on several 1963's I've seen. Original owner said it came new that way.
The 3 speed transmission was shot so I tossed a 5 speed in it from a Mack.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Does DMV finally agree about your VIN, or is that still in dispute?
Many employees at any given DMV nowadays are too young to remember when VIN's didn't have to be 17 characters. Could it have been just one clerk's lack of familiarity with VINs of older vehicles?
My first Ford truck was a 1963 F100. Three on the tree. It was a unibody, and the bed was actually wider than the cab, because of the body line continuity that extended from the cab doors past the B pillar all the way toward the tail gate. My recollection is that the 1962 pickup was a unibody as well, but not the '64. By the end of '63, Ford was done with unibody pickups, save for the Ranchero.

DMV agrees now
I took a picture of the build tag and they said they can register it now.
My truck is not a unibody. The wheel opening design on the fenders does not match the box. I have seen many pictures of '62's where the box matched the fenders.

If that is your truck in your avator, it looks very much like my old '63 in the front. Except for mine was red on the bottom, instead of green. My grill was chrome too.
Where the white part is... that is what continued straight to the back on my truck, in one unbroken body line, except for a design serif which was common to most trucks of that era.
I have seen separate cab and bed trucks of similar years, but the folks who collect these trucks would know more about what was available when.

Welcome to FTE. You have certainly picked some odd places to post your question. There is a forum specifically for your year truck. Feel free to start a new thread in the future.
As for your question, it appears so. Note LMC sells fenders for all years of that series.
Front Steel Body Parts | 1997-03 Ford F1501997-99 Ford F2502004 Ford Heritage | LMC Truck
I do not have access to Ford part lists, so LMC is the best I can do. There may be some trim differences, but you can eyeball that.
Good luck with it.

Hey guys,
A couple of months ago I bought a 1990 F800 that came with a parts truck (1988), but it took them a while to get the parts truck to me, so I waited until I had both to ask for help decoding the VINs.
Here's the door plate from the 1988 truck:

Here's a pic of the 1990 door sticker...thought I took a pic of the data plate, but I guess I didn't:

hard to find parts
thank you for your offer to locate parts. have you had time to look at my parts query of 12-01-15 ? from one of your posts I gathered that your workload etc. was pretty high. I have purchased all the paper manuals (except for parts) from one of the sources you recommended , they are of very good quality. thank you
