I replaced the belt in late summer, which I do about every two years/20000 miles. In early November I replaced the alternator and ever since at first start each day there is a short, high pitched squeal from the belt near the tensioner. Any idea what to repair?

 

I had a rebuilt alternator put in my truck 2 years ago, and it started to seize up about 3 months after and I had the same problem. Maybe take your alternator back and have it checked (assuming there's a warrantee).

go to autozone and get "fan belt dressings" i think stp makes them but im not sure. i had that annoying sound until i put some of that stuff on. it has been gone for 5 months now. if its something serious you probably need to get you pulleys looked at.

 

Hopefully not the alternator, it is new, not a rebuilt. But I'll check it out.
