EcoBoost: Towing torture test of my own!

MotorTrend did a test of all 4 engines in the 2011 F-150 line up. Torque on the Econboost comes in at 2000 RPM ....which is why this engine is so good at acceleration and towing.

2000rpm @ 55mph on a 5 degree grade. This truck is a beast compared to my previous 4.6 V8 towing the same 4000lb trailer

How does the F150 handle the breaking? That would be my only worry with it since the F150 is lighter, shorter and (I presume...) smaller brakes. I know the F150 has good brakes for a 1/2 ton though.
Arent they the only 1/2 with 4 wheel disks standard?
I have faith in the EB itself. Do you guys have any issues breaking with big trailers?

2011 FX4 SuperCrew FX4 with Max Tow Package..3.73 rear end
800 mile round trip to Joliet Illinois and back, pulling a 21 ft. tandem, dove tail, flatbed Kaufman trailer with 2007 Mustang on board.
With the integrated brake controller set on 5, the braking was superb. Braking was normal, as if the trailer was not behind the truck...no pushing.
At 65 MPH, tach was at 1750 rpm in 6th gear, cruise control set and in tow/haul mode. On hills, after losing 1 MPH, it would shift down to 5th gear..tach at 2000 RPM...climb back to 65 and maintain set speed.. Average MPG for the 800 miles was 14.

I disappeared from the forum for awhile but I'm back! To answer your questions:
Brakes: If you have the correct setup, it's GREAT. When I bought my truck my dealer had more than 100 F-150's on the lot and I spent all day looking at them. It seemed like everyone had the factory brake controller, I didn't notice mine didn't until I was driving home! My first trip with this trailer I had to do it with a auto part store controller and it was damn right SCARY. I ended up doing 10mph switch backs on a 7% grade and was riding first gear, pulsing what I had left for brakes, etc. My dealer got me a factory controller for cost and it works a million times better! The only thing I prefered about towing this with the 6.0 is the engine braking of a big V8, the 3.5 tries but it's just not the same.
Shudder: Negative

Definitely a nice setup you have there. These trucks arestronger and more capable than ever. If I can steal your spotlight for a second, a couple of months ago I had to pick up 9 ton of pellets for my mother, my in-laws, and myself. I borrowed a trailer from a friend that has a large scale landscaping business and his 30 foot flatbed trailer that he usually tows his skid-steer in weighs in at 3900 lbs unloaded. I did 3 tons at a time, totaling 9900 lbs per pull. It was only about a 12 mile trip to each house of back country roads with some small hills and such, but the truck and breaks did awesome. Going 12 miles at 9900 and 12 miles back at 3900, 3 separate times, I averaged around 14mpg. I took it real easy on the gas, but was amazed how well the truck could pull. This setup was over the manufacturers limit on what my 2008 F250 with the 5.4 could tow. This isn't as impressive as your rig, but its a testament of what these trucks are capable.
First time doing a photo, so I'm not sure it will work.

I see you're the only person who addressed this and it's been ignored by the rest, including the OP. In addition to doing what you suggested here, he also needs to shift more weight to the tongue, this based on what he posted as to tongue weight, it's far from enough. That trailer is "*** heavy" and that's his biggest problem with sway. It's a 7,000 lb trailer and only 1000 of it is on the front end.
