1996 Rear Only Largest Tires?

For the back end only, I think I've read here that 32-33" tires shouldn't be a problem.

Just like to know what I could do without lifting it / new hardware.

I have tiny 29's on my stock 2wd. Looking at the gap of the fender I imagine 33's would fit fine maybe 35's with no changes
4x4's with stock lift blocks maybe could fit a little better

I hope it's a 2wd you are talking about, don't want different sizes on a 4wd.
I think 33 would fit ok. Might help if the vehicle was specified.

Of course you're right. It's a 4x2 Std Cab long bed.

Inner rear fender, front fender, or both? And: How loaded down were you? I was planning to run the same brand / type of tire but smaller size on the front. The wheels would be 18"x9.5" I think.
