A new ignition switch is $9.99. Why not just replace it?

Do you still have power in the ON position? I bought an 89 recently that had a bad switch. I think that the rod actuator was broken. I have a push button on the dash to activate the starter. I just has wires that run from a HOT back to the S on the starter relay. I also have a toggle switch that splices into the underdash wiring that turns everything on and off. With this particular setup I have no ACC position. Doesn't really bother me, but it could be an issue for some.

Use a small jumper wire to jump #3 and #5 (with tranny in Park or Neutral).

If the start starts turning, the problem exists from that point back to the steering wheel.

If the starter doesn't turn, the solenoid is shot (bewrare of Chinese-made solenoids, they have a bad reputation here).
